About Us

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Description of Work

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team. This role involves performing routine practical nursing care under the supervision of a Professional Nurse or Nurse Supervisor. Responsibilities include assisting with assessments, providing personal care, taking vital signs, monitoring intake/output, collecting specimens, changing dressings, delivering basic treatments, administering routine medications, and supporting Registered Nurses and physicians as needed.

Salary Range: $41,407 - $62,111

ELIGIBLE FOR A $3,000 SIGN-ON BONUS. Additionally, positions are eligible for employee referral bonus program ($1,000).

To be eligible for a sign-on bonus, the candidate must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act.

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.

This position requires a solid working knowledge of nursing techniques, procedures, theory, and practices, as well as sanitation, personal hygiene, and basic health and safety standards. The role demands familiarity with proper medication dosages, their effects, and contraindications. Employees must be skilled in routine medical procedures such as basic wound care, cleaning and bandaging injuries, taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and weight, and collecting specimens. Competence in preparing and administering medications is essential. In addition, the position calls for the ability to guide and counsel subordinate staff on daily routines, provide direct nursing care within the scope of practice, and accurately observe and evaluate patient conditions. Strong communication skills are necessary to instruct patients in routine medical care and interact effectively with patients and families both orally and in writing. The ability to respond calmly and effectively to potentially life-threatening situations, while demonstrating a professional and caring approach, is critical to success in this role.
