JOB SUMMARY

Job Profile Summary

The Laboratory Technician supports a petroleum product quality control laboratory in Kansas City, KS. This role is responsible for performing product testing and analytical evaluations in accordance with established procedures and standards. The technician operates with a high degree of independence, contributing to routine testing as well as special projects and programs. 

This position requires a strong understanding of laboratory operations and the impact of analytical data on business decisions. The technician also plays a key role in maintaining laboratory excellence by supporting continuous improvement efforts, equipment maintenance, calibration, and housekeeping. A flexible schedule is required, including the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis of product samples, including testing, specification comparison, and results reporting  

  • Generate accurate and timely reports for both internal stakeholders and external customers  

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory processes and performance  

  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and compliance through routine housekeeping and equipment upkeep  

  • Perform basic equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting as needed  

  • Collaborate with program administrators to ensure effective program execution and ongoing support  

  • Participate in training, special projects, and other laboratory initiatives as assigned 

Education

  • Four-year degree from an accredited university or college with a major in a natural science with laboratory component (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Earth Sciences) 

  • Two years of experience and has demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of product specifications, test procedures, test significance, and the value the larger organization derives from lab-generated analytical data.
