Purpose of the role

To use innovative data analytics and machine learning techniques to extract valuable insights from the bank's data reserves, leveraging these insights to inform strategic decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and drive innovation across the organisation. 

Accountabilities

• Identification, collection, extraction of data from various sources, including internal and external sources.
• Performing data cleaning, wrangling, and transformation to ensure its quality and suitability for analysis.
• Development and maintenance of efficient data pipelines for automated data acquisition and processing.
• Design and conduct of statistical and machine learning models to analyse patterns, trends, and relationships in the data.
• Development and implementation of predictive models to forecast future outcomes and identify potential risks and opportunities.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to seek out opportunities to add value from data through Data Science.

Overall purpose of role

To support the Financial Crime Screening operation by providing support for the technological services used by the team and ensure development and delivery of high-quality data forensics. This will involve both directly performing analytical and development work, as well as working with the Barclays internal technical teams to ensure continued delivery of the platforms used. Additionally, compliance with Sanctions policies and work practices will be monitored and all requirements and restrictions adhered to.

Key Accountabilities:

• Apply statistical techniques, machine learning methods, and analytical approaches to solve complex business and operational challenges.

• Write high-quality, scalable code in Python and SQL to extract, transform, analyse, and visualise complex datasets using Power BI and Tableau, building robust data pipelines that integrate data from multiple sources.

• Produce meaningful data forensics and advanced analytics to support the delivery of Financial Crime Screening operational initiatives.

• Design, develop, and maintain analytical and machine learning solutions to generate insights, identify patterns, and support data-driven decision making.

• Respond to ad-hoc analytical requests and communicate findings, trends, insights, and MI effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Collaborate with data engineering and technology teams to support data acquisition, transformation, and optimisation activities.

• Have an active interest in emerging technologies, data science methodologies, visualisation techniques, and automation opportunities across multiple technical disciplines.

• Develop an understanding of Financial Crime preventative measures, systems, and operational processes within Barclays.

• Support the delivery of automation, analytics, and AI-driven initiatives aligned with the wider Group strategy.

• Demonstrated experience handling and analysing large datasets using Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, and other analytical tools.

• Experience applying machine learning techniques, predictive analytics, data modelling, and statistical methods to derive business insights.

• Basic understanding of data engineering concepts, database structures, data pipelines, and data processing frameworks would be advantageous.

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple analytical projects and deliver measurable business outcomes within agreed timelines

Desirable Skillsets:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline.

• Relevant experience in Data Science, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, and Business Intelligence.

• Strong hands-on experience in Python and SQL programming, including data manipulation, data analysis, and solution development.

• Experience building and maintaining analytical models using statistical and machine learning techniques.

• Proficient in Power BI and Tableau for dashboard development, visualisation, and business reporting.

• Strong understanding of data analytics methodologies, exploratory data analysis, and data visualisation best practices.

• Experience working with large and complex datasets to support operational and strategic decision making.

• Strong analytical and quantitative skills to support Global Financial Crime Operations deliveries and collaborate effectively across multiple sites and functions.

• Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex analytical concepts and solutions to non-technical audiences

• Knowledge or experience within Financial Crime Operations, Screening, Compliance, or Risk Management.

• Working knowledge and understanding of end-to-end payment flows.

• Basic understanding of data engineering concepts, ETL processes, data warehousing, and database server-side technologies.

• Experience with cloud-based analytics platforms and big data technologies would be advantageous.
