Reporting to the North America Service Engineering Manager, the FACTS & VFT Service Project engineer will be responsible for leading and coordinating all technical aspects of GSI NAM Service Projects.
Will lead engineering effort at various project phases, engineering process follow up, ensures the proper management of interfaces with our partners and main suppliers.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

• Test, commission, troubleshoot, service, maintain, and upgrade General Electric equipment and components.
• Perform and assist in field work for commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting on VFT & FACTS installations (including power electronic valves, synchronous machines, switchgear, cooling systems, and control systems).
• Remotely assist clients in investigating VFT and FACTS installation failures or operational problems.
• Travel to manufacturing locations to inspect work, mark up drawings, witness/review test work, and resolve manufacturing issues.
• Supervise upgrades for various components of the FACTS system.
• Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for 'Variable Frequency Transformer' (VFT) and FACTS technology in the U.S.
• Undertake detailed design reviews and risk assessments of engineering deliverables submitted by internal and external subcontractors.
• Provide critical feedback to the Project Engineering Team regarding technical quality, feasibility, completeness, and constructability.
• Participate in design reviews, providing commentary on project schedule risks and constructability.
• Identify impending obsolescence issues and report them to Engineering management for action.
• Evaluate and develop improved equipment testing procedures to maximize reliability, maintainability, and field installation efficiency.
• Perform studies and analysis to determine the root causes of failures and malfunctions in FACTS installations.
• Support Service & Design requirements for active service projects and FACTS installations.
• Serve as the single point of contact for technical issues for both the customer and the project manager.
• Provide insights on VFT controls and drives upgrades; participate in developing a technical knowledge base.
• Assist Business Development by establishing a VFT technology database to support customers with maintenance and operation post-upgrade.
• Assist FACTS engineers with factory testing of power electronics components and control systems.
• Develop proposals, including writing/reviewing technical specifications, estimating materials, supporting vendor sourcing, and directing design/drafting requirements.
  

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Total Experience: At least eight (8) years in power system design, MV/HV electrical systems, or a combination.

Specialized Experience:

PLC/Control Algorithms: Five (5) years of experience modifying/troubleshooting PLC Controllers (specifically including Mark6e).

Commissioning: Experience as a field engineer and commissioning leader at high-power generation sites, including sub-station protection testing.

Power Electronics: Experience with low-voltage DC-AC converters for generator excitation or industrial motor control.

Testing/Simulation: Experience testing control cabinets using Real-Time Simulators.

Technology Expertise: Experience supporting the operation of Variable Frequency Transformers (VFTs) and auxiliary systems.

This position allows for a hybrid work arrangement.  Candidate may work remotely two (2) days per week, within 50 miles of company location in Saratoga Springs, NY.  Approximately 40% travel (domestic and international) to unanticipated customer sites, project sites and manufacturing locations to support project installation and commissioning phases; to inspect and test work; and to address root case analysis. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a drug screen (as applicable). For U.S. based positions only, the pay range for this position is $135,000-$153,000 annually. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 10% variable incentive compensation. For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $98,400.00 and $164,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

 

 

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
