Role Purpose

You will lead how LA28 plans and delivers the road-based endurance events at the heart of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games: the Marathon, Road Cycling, and Triathlon. As Director, Road Sports, you own end-to-end planning, operational readiness, and delivery across complex courses that run through the streets of Los Angeles. In the years leading up to the Games, you will establish the plans, agreements, and agency relationships that make these events possible, shaping how road sport is delivered while keeping athletes, spectators, and communities at the center.

Key Responsibilities

·       Lead the end-to-end planning, operational readiness, and delivery of road-based endurance events, including the Marathon, Road Cycling, and Triathlon.

·       Build and manage multi-agency and road-city relationships across the Los Angeles region to enable event delivery.

·       Negotiate permitting, jurisdictional agreements, and use agreements that secure road courses and event footprints.

·       Coordinate public safety and traffic planning with partner agencies to protect athletes, spectators, and communities.

·       Align priorities across city, county, and state partners, resolving scope and delivery challenges through collaboration.

Required Competencies

·       Minimum 8+ years of experience leading large-scale, complex event operations, with proven delivery across the planning, readiness, and operational phases.

·       Proven track record of leading the planning and delivery of large-scale, complex road event operations across multiple project phases.

·       Multi-jurisdictional permitting experience and road event planning operations across complex public-road and community environments in a major metropolitan region.

·       Significant stakeholder management experience across major, large-scale venue planning and operational delivery programs.

·       Direct road-course experience and proven collaboration with city, county, and state partners on comparable large-scale events.

Valued Experience

·       Past Games or large international competitions involving road-events planning.

·       Experience delivering endurance events such as marathons, road cycling, or triathlon.

·       Familiarity with Los Angeles or California permitting and road-closure coordination.

·       Track record building relationships across public agencies and community stakeholders.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

·       Available to work onsite in our Downtown Los Angeles-based office.

·       The majority of work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment.

·       The LA28 office is an open floorplan working environment; employees must be able to work efficiently in an open cubicle environment.

·       Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods.

·       Perform other duties as required; the role will evolve over time and may include operational responsibilities during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Compensation

The annual base salary range for this position is $126,000.00- $160,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28's operational business needs and applicable law.
