As our new Early Career Environmental/Civil Engineer, you will play an important role on a multidisciplinary team whose work is essential to achieving this goal.

You will work closely with senior engineering and environmental professionals and project managers to support complex environmental permitting and engineering projects, with a particular focus on large-scale permitting efforts for mining, natural resources, and other industrial projects. This role provides an opportunity to develop both technical environmental/civil engineering expertise and practical project management skills while supporting projects from planning and baseline studies through permit application development and agency review.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the preparation and coordination of environmental permit applications, technical reports, supporting studies, agency submittals, and other permitting deliverables.
  • Assist senior engineering and environmental professionals with technical analyses, engineering calculations, data evaluation, and preparation of technical documentation.
  • Support large, multidisciplinary projects from initial planning and baseline studies through application development, agency review, and permitting.
  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules; track key milestones, dependencies, deliverables, deadlines, and action items.
  • Assist project managers with project controls, including budget and progress tracking, forecasting, scope management, and project status reporting.
  • Coordinate technical inputs and deliverables across environmental, civil, water resources, geotechnical, mining, and other disciplines.
  • Support coordination with clients, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Prepare meeting agendas and minutes, maintain action-item logs, and follow up with project team members to support timely completion of deliverables.
  • Assist with management of permitting documentation, agency correspondence, review comments, commitments, submittals, and project records.
  • Review and prepare reports, technical memoranda, presentations, calculations, specifications, and other project documentation.
  • Participate in field investigations, site visits, data collection, and other field activities, as required.
  • Prepare project estimates, schedules, and reports.
  • Contribute to proposals and other business development efforts.
  • Collaborate with professionals across SLR's environmental, engineering, and advisory disciplines.

  • The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, years of experience, internal parity, and location.

Qualifications/Education/Memberships:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 0-5 years of relevant professional, internship, or co-op experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred, or ability and willingness to obtain EIT certification.
  • Interest or experience in environmental permitting, environmental engineering, civil engineering, water resources, mine permitting, reclamation, or related areas preferred.
  • Interest in developing project management and project controls skills, including scheduling, budget tracking, forecasting, and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with Microsoft Project or similar scheduling software is advantageous.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, environmental modeling, or other relevant engineering software is advantageous.
  • Strong technical writing, verbal communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality technical work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability and willingness to travel periodically for project and field assignments.
  • Previous experience in mining, natural resources, industrial development, or other complex permitting environments is advantageous but not required.
