Atomic Machines · Vor Ort · Emeryville or Santa Clara CA

Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era of micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler™ technology platform. This platform enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by providing manufacturing processes and a materials library that are inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. It unlocks MEMS manufacturing not only for device classes that could never be produced by semiconductor methods, but also for entirely new categories. Furthermore, this digital platform is fully programmable in the way 3D printing is digital—but whereas 3D printing produces parts of a single material using a single process, the Matter Compiler™ technology platform is a multi-process, multi-material system: bits and raw materials go in, and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device—made possible only through the Matter Compiler™ technology platform—that we will be unveiling to the world soon.

Our offices are in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California.

About The Role:

We are seeking a highly technical Engineering Program Manager to own the program for that first device's successor, end to end: from requirements still maturing with lead customers, through qualification, certification, and manufacturing scale-up on the Matter Compiler, to commercial launch. That successor is a new class of micromachine, made possible only by the Matter Compiler — and you will be the leader that delivers it.

At Atomic Machines, Program Management is a leverage function, and its core skill is clarity. The Device program's technical leadership is already in place: device design, process, test, and reliability are each led by deep domain owners who move fast and expect the same. You lead that team as one program, and you drive the outcome, integrated plan, customer commitments, tradeoffs, operating cadence, and decisions that keep every discipline moving as one. Technical direction belongs to the domain owners; turning their work into the outcomes of certified, scaling, revenue-generating products belongs to you. This role is for someone who was an individual contributor in complex technical domains and moved into program leadership on purpose: to influence product direction, align engineering and manufacturing, and own outcomes end to end.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and drive the program roadmap end to end: set goals, define milestones and evidence gates, and build the accountability structure that connects daily engineering work to business outcomes and customer commitments.
  • Direct cross-functional execution across device physics, fabrication processes, automation, and system integration: set the deliverables, sequencing, and resource calls for engineering, operations, and leadership.
  • Build and run the integrated plan connecting customer commitments, design maturity, process capability, and manufacturing readiness. Run the operating cadence that keeps it honest.
  • Turn maturing customer requirements into committed, testable targets, and hold the program to them.
  • Build the program structures that keep device and process development in lockstep with the Matter Compiler platform. Move development from R&D into production and define what each handoff must prove.
  • Structure the program around evidence and short learning loops: design the build-test-learn iteration cycles, give every open unknown an experiment with a pass/fail criterion, and let the schedule follow from results.
  • Own the qualification and certification path (e.g., UL/IEC) as a program commitment shaped into the design from day one.
  • Deliver the outcome: the device demonstrated, evaluated by lead customers, and qualified through production ramp.
  • Institutionalize what you learn: build the systems, rhythms, and decision structures the whole organization runs on, so the next program moves faster than this one.

What You’ll Need:

  • 8+ years spanning hands-on engineering and technical program leadership on complex multidisciplinary hardware: you have personally taken things from thought to build and owned programs that others depended on.
  • A track record of taking integrated hardware systems from concept through manufacturing release and commercial delivery, with the judgment to know when a decision needs more rigor and when to move fast.
  • Deep technical fluency in at least one core engineering domain and productive command across the rest: you hold your own with engineers designing in coupled physical domains — electromagnetics, structural mechanics, thermal behavior, fluidics, and materials.
  • You drive senior technical leads to deliver at a high level: clarity, structure, and pace, while technical direction stays with the domain owner.
  • Relentlessness in driving through ambiguity: turning unresolved requirements into scope, evidence gates, and a plan the team runs.
  • Conviction in iterative hardware development and short learning loops — build early, test early, learn fast, continually finding the shortest learning loop.
  • True Ownership of your program and domain, with bottom-line-up-front communication, trusted by engineers and leadership alike. The strongest people you've worked with would choose to work with you again.
  • BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Materials Science.

Nice to Have:

  • Reliability engineering for microscale or precision devices: accelerated life testing, environmental stress testing, and long-term performance characterization.
  • Experience driving a product through UL, IEC, or equivalent certification.
  • Experience standing up programs from ground zero, then driving reliability growth to manufacturing scale.

We are hiring across senior levels; final leveling will be determined during the interview process.

The compensation for this position also includes equity and benefits.
