Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and develop high-performing engineering teams working on complex avionics and Flight Management Systems (FMS) programs.

In this role, you will combine engineering expertise, people leadership, project execution, and organizational leadership to ensure successful delivery of safety-critical engineering programs aligned with business and customer objectives.

You will be responsible for managing engineering teams, developing technical capabilities, optimizing resources, driving engineering excellence, and ensuring commitments related to quality, cost, schedule, technical performance, and customer expectations are achieved.

What You Will Do

Engineering & Technical Leadership

  • Lead and develop high-performing engineering teams, driving performance, engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide management-level guidance and technical leadership across multiple engineering projects and teams.
  • Oversee engineering activities related to avionics software development, verification, and certification.
  • Ensure engineering programs meet technical, quality, safety, schedule, cost, and customer commitments.
  • Mentor engineering leads and project engineers in project planning, execution, technical development, and resource management.
  • Support complex engineering estimates and make informed technical and business decisions.

Program & Project Execution

  • Plan, organize, and oversee engineering activities across multiple projects.
  • Manage project commitments, risks, schedules, costs, quality, and delivery objectives.
  • Participate in key project cadence meetings and provide management-level execution oversight.
  • Identify and resolve organizational, technical, resource, and execution-related challenges.
  • Ensure effective change management and alignment with business and customer requirements.
  • Drive strong ownership and accountability for organizational and project commitments.

People & Talent Leadership

  • Manage staffing, capacity, resource allocation, and priorities based on business and project requirements.
  • Drive people development through performance management, coaching, mentoring, career development, and regular one-on-one discussions.
  • Develop engineering competencies and build strong technical leadership capabilities within the organization.
  • Support Talent Management, Performance Management, and Change Management initiatives.
  • Create an environment that promotes collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.

Strategy & Organizational Development

  • Collaborate with senior leaders and key stakeholders to develop and execute engineering strategies.
  • Drive standardized engineering processes, best practices, Communities of Practice, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering productivity, quality, and execution effectiveness.
  • Support organizational capability development and long-term engineering strategy.

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with senior leaders, architects, project leadership, customers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships across Engineering, Program Management, Systems, Software, Quality, and other functions.
  • Communicate project status, risks, opportunities, and recommendations effectively to leadership.
  • Act as a trusted engineering partner and advisor to senior management and business stakeholders.

What You Will Learn

  • Gain broader exposure to end-to-end avionics software development, verification, and certification.
  • Develop expertise in leading multiple engineering teams and complex safety-critical aerospace programs.
  • Strengthen your knowledge of Flight Management Systems (FMS) and avionics engineering.
  • Gain experience working with advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and DevOps.
  • Develop deeper expertise in DO-178B/C certification processes and aerospace engineering standards.
  • Strengthen capabilities in project execution, resource planning, staffing, and organizational leadership.
  • Work closely with senior leaders, architects, project managers, customers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Build expertise in engineering process improvement, innovation, talent development, and change management.
  • Develop advanced leadership skills while building and growing high-performing engineering organizations.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • 12+ years of relevant engineering experience in Avionics, preferably within Flight Management Systems (FMS).
  • Hands-on experience in avionics software development, verification, and certification.
  • Experience completing at least one full avionics software product lifecycle.
  • Proven experience managing multiple engineering teams and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of avionics project management, including planning, execution, change control, risk management, and stakeholder management.
  • Strong practical knowledge of DO-178B/C certification processes, with experience at least at DAL-B.
  • Significant domain knowledge of products and systems within the assigned engineering area.
  • Ability to work effectively under stringent project deadlines with strong ownership of organizational and project commitments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, develop talent, and drive engineering performance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience leading large or multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience managing complex avionics software programs.
  • Experience establishing and implementing engineering processes, policies, standards, best practices, and compliance programs.
  • Experience supporting audits, assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong experience in Talent Management, Performance Management, and Change Management.
  • Experience developing engineering competencies and technical capability frameworks.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching engineering leaders and team managers.
  • Experience with complex software estimation and technical decision-making.
  • Experience with DevOps practices or AI-assisted software development tools.
  • Ability to act as a trusted advisor to senior management and business partners.
  • Strong judgment, delegation, dependability, attention to detail, and ability to make well-informed decisions under pressure.

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering — BE / B.Tech / ME / M.Tech.
  • Preferred disciplines include Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical, Avionics, or a related engineering discipline.
  • For engineering and technical positions, a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with relevant professional experience is typically required, subject to applicable local laws and regulations.

Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
