A Note from the Founder
Citizen is the number one name in consumer safety in America. Hundreds of thousands of videos captured live at the scene. Countless lives saved because someone nearby knew in time. A brand millions of people already trust with the worst moments of their day. We built that on the strength of the product and the moments the country handed us. Now AI has transformed how this company runs, and for the first time we have the resources and the attention to do what we have never done at full strength: tell the story. We have thousands of them, real ones, people protecting each other, and the story, the brand, and the growth engine are about to activate together.
I want the person who runs that. Not a marketing team; a marketer, with a team of agents you run yourself and a budget that is yours the day you walk in. Output goes up by an order of magnitude and headcount does not. Nobody has done this at Citizen and very few people have done it anywhere. If you have already rebuilt your function this way and you want to be first here, we should talk.
About
Citizen is the #1 safety app in the U.S. Every day, thousands of videos are captured live at the scene of real incidents and distributed in real time to people in every major American city. No other consumer product has this. It is a live network, a newsroom, and a safety tool at once, and it is growing again.
You will run Citizen's full marketing function across consumer and enterprise, reporting directly to the Founder. You own strategy, execution, and outcomes across paid, organic, lifecycle, content, and brand, on three tracks: driving new installs, bringing lapsed users back, and leading marketing on cross-functional priorities including enterprise, partnerships, and product launches. You inherit three agency relationships and a real budget. The team is you, the agents you build, and the agencies you decide to keep. It moves fast and operates at the intersection of media, technology, and public safety.
Why Now
Three things are true at once. The brand is already known in every major U.S. city and the user base is massive and growing. The enterprise business is real, and the market is about to hear about it for the first time. And AI has changed the economics of running this company, which means marketing gets the investment and the tooling it never had before. Add the raw material: a creator program in its infancy with room to become a primary growth channel,
and an archive of saved lives and magic moments that no other brand can claim. Someone has to connect all of it to the moment, every day, and make millions of people care. That is this seat.
What You Will Own
Storytelling and brand. The Citizen story, told every day: the lives saved, the neighbors who ran toward, the moments the network made possible. You turn a live archive of real events into a brand people feel, across social, video, press, and the product itself. The tempo is daily, the source never runs dry, and the machine surfaces the candidates; you pick the ones that travel. This is the largest opportunity in the role and the one nobody else in the category can copy.
Product marketing and cross-functional priorities. Go-to-market strategy for feature launches, product moments, and city expansions across paid, organic, and press. Strategic partnerships: new co-marketing and distribution opportunities, and the marketing lead on deals that need cross-functional coordination. Ad hoc initiatives as the business evolves, from rebrands to research sprints to new channel experiments, prioritized without being told what matters.
Enterprise marketing. The foundation of a B2B marketing engine with the enterprise sales team: positioning, messaging, and the assets that move deals forward. GTM strategy for enterprise verticals that creates pipeline and makes Citizen a known name before a rep ever calls. Collateral built from what customers actually say on sales calls, produced in days and kept current without a request. The goal is shorter cycles, higher win rates, and Citizen Enterprise established as the category leader in real-time safety intelligence.
Paid media. Full ownership of paid install campaigns across Meta, TikTok, and Apple Search Ads with agency support. Budget allocation across broad top-of-funnel and targeted new market launches. Creative tested in volume, optimization running continuously, attribution across channels. The agencies work for you; keep the ones that earn it. You inherit a real paid budget and a brand with unusual pull; the opportunity is to make every dollar work harder than it ever has, growing faster on the same spend.
Creator program. A program in its infancy, with the ceiling nowhere in sight. Recruitment, payments, relationship management, and quality tracking for the creator roster, run as a system rather than an inbox. You decide who is on the roster and what the program is for. Goal: high-quality content that improves the in-app experience, increases time spent, and improves Week-1 retention.
The machine. The workflows above, designed, run, and pushed forward. This is how all of the above gets done, not a separate workstream, and it is the part of the job that compounds.
The First Conversation
Before we meet, study Citizen: the product, the brand, the live network, the archive. Then pitch us the impact Citizen should be having and is not yet. What can be delivered, at what speed, fueled by AI-native capability, and what it takes to get there. The final conversation is you convincing the Founder of the vision and of your plan to execute it. If you are right, that plan is what you start on.
Your First 90 Days
Days 1–30. Learn the numbers cold in the first week: CAC by channel, LTV, MAU components, creator contribution. Audit every channel, agency, and workflow. Stand up the first loops in creative testing and story monitoring. Ship visible improvements to paid and lifecycle. Finalize the marketing plan with the Founder: the three tracks, the budget, the agency scorecard.
Days 31–60. Execute the plan at full tempo. Creative testing running in volume, the first stories told at scale, enterprise positioning and the first vertical collateral in the sales team's hands. Set the creator program's metrics and start scaling it.
Days 61–90. First enterprise vertical GTM live and generating pipeline. Creator program hitting the metrics you set. Agency spend moving toward owned capability. Set the twelve-month plan and the budget to run it, with the machine already proving the assumptions behind it.
How Success is Measured
Net new sign-ups and CAC by channel, managed against LTV to hold target LTV/CAC ratios on paid spend
MAU growth, split into new user acquisition and lapsed-user resurrection, both owned and driven by this role Brand reach and engagement on the stories we tell, and the share of growth that comes from organic and earned
Creator program contribution to Week-1 retention and share of total watch time
Enterprise pipeline generated through marketing-sourced campaigns, content, and collateral Time from idea to live, for a campaign or a story: days, not weeks, and falling
Share of execution that runs without a human in the loop, rising month over month
Who You Are
A proven leader who has owned a marketing function, not coordinated one. You have run channels end to end, managed people and agencies, built or rebuilt a team, and you know when to delegate and when to get in the weeds. Roughly five or more years is the shape of that experience; the outcomes matter more than the count.
High agency. You decide, you ship, and you build the tool when it does not exist. You do not need a team to move and you do not wait to be told what matters.
A storyteller. You know a great story when you see one, you know how to make people feel it, and you know how to make it travel.
Analytical and numbers-driven. You know what success looks like before a campaign launches, you track it while it runs, and you can tell the story of what happened and why when it is over.
Strong visual instincts, fluent in design and video, able to give creative direction that lands. You thrive in fast-paced environments, make confident decisions without a complete picture, and do not need things to slow down to do good work.
A strong writer across formats, from a punchy social caption to a sales one-pager to an executive brief. Genuinely fluent in AI for marketing. Not interested in it. Not experimenting with it. Fluent. You have rebuilt workflows around it, know what the tools can and cannot do, and are always paying attention to what is next. HubSpot is the system of record you inherit; everything on top of it is yours to choose.
A news junkie who follows what is happening in real time, understands how cycles move, and knows how to connect Citizen's story to the moment. Experience across consumer and enterprise is a plus.
Compensation
Base salary of $250,000–$300,000 per year, plus a meaningful equity stake.
