Help shape the next chapter of one of Queensland’s most recognised private hospitals.

St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital has a proud history of clinical excellence, innovation and specialist care. Now, we are looking firmly to the future.

We have an ambitious agenda for St Andrew’s – strengthening our position as a destination for complex, high-acuity care, developing and growing our Centres of Excellence, investing in our clinical capability and infrastructure, and building the workforce, systems and partnerships required for the hospital of the future.

We are seeking an exceptional Director of Clinical Services to join our Executive Leadership Team and play a pivotal role in turning that ambition into reality.

The opportunity

This is not a role focused simply on maintaining what already exists.

As Director of Clinical Services, you will have the opportunity to influence the future clinical direction of St Andrew’s and lead a substantial portfolio spanning nursing, clinical operations, quality, safety, workforce capability and service development.

Working closely with the General Manager, medical specialists and the broader Executive team, you will help strengthen St Andrew’s position as a leading private hospital and build sustainable clinical services around the areas in which we can truly differentiate.

What you will lead

You will provide executive leadership across clinical services, with responsibility for creating an environment in which exceptional care, strong clinical governance and high performing operations reinforce one another.

A significant part of your mandate will be developing capable and accountable clinical leaders, strengthening workforce capability and succession, and ensuring our models of care and workforce models evolve alongside the complexity of the services we provide.

You will work in genuine partnership with our Visiting Medical Practitioners and clinical teams to improve patient flow, theatre performance and the clinician experience, while ensuring quality and patient safety remain uncompromised.

You’ll promote improvement in performance and better outcomes for patients through evidence-based care, through the monitoring and reporting of clinical and material KPI’s.

Importantly, you will also help translate strategy into execution – supporting new and expanded services, clinical innovation, education, technology and infrastructure investment, and the continued development of St Andrew’s as a hospital recognised for excellence in complex care.

What makes a difference for us?

As an accomplished clinical leader, you will present with significant recent senior leadership experience within a public or private acute environment of a comparable size and clinical complexity. Your experience has equipped you with an aptitude for people leadership, and exceptional interpersonal skills to confidently navigate challenging clinical and behavioural scenarios through to optimal outcomes.

Ideally, you have previously managed significant organisational and cultural change within a large health service, with a proven record of improving patient care and reducing clinical risk hospital-wide. You’ll demonstrate skills and experience including:

  • At least 3-5+ years’ recent experience at Director of Clinical Services level (private hospital experience preferred)

  • Bachelor of Nursing Degree or equivalent, with post-graduate qualifications (desirable)

  • Current AHPRA Registration as a Registered Nurse

  • Proven track record in setting strategy with appropriate governance, planning budgets and meeting budget and all other relevant KPI’s

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Human Resources practices, Industrial Agreements, Workplace Health and Safety practices and Continuous Quality Improvement principles

  • Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation, review and education of Clinical Governance Framework

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with accreditation to the second edition National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards
