Come Drive Innovation with Us. We are currently looking for a  Design Engineer 1 to join our team in Toluca Mex. R&D Design Engineer: Responsible for the design, development, validation, and production support of Powertrain Exhaust System components for Nissan vehicle programs. Ensures compliance with performance, emissions, durability, quality, cost, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements while collaborating with global teams, suppliers, and manufacturing plants. Supports new product development, cost reduction initiatives, quality improvements, field investigations, and technical problem-solving throughout the product lifecycle.

A Day in the Life:   

• Design and develop exhaust system components and assemblies for engine/vehicle programs.
• Create and release engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and design changes.
• Coordinate development activities with global engineering teams, suppliers, manufacturing plants, and purchasing.
• Support product development from concept through production launch.
• Conduct design reviews, DFMEA/DRBFM activities, and technical risk assessments.
• Lead root cause analysis and implementation of countermeasures for quality, durability, and warranty concerns.
• Support validation testing, emissions compliance, and vehicle development activities.
• Drive Value Optimization (VO), cost reduction, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Review and approve supplier designs, technical documents, and engineering proposals.
• Support manufacturing and launch activities, ensuring product performance, quality, timing, and cost targets are achieved.
• Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, and management presentations.
• Manage project deliverables, schedules, and cross-functional communication throughout the product lifecycle.

Who We’re Looking for:

Mechanical design principles.

D&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).

Root cause analysis methodologies.

Manufacturing processes including welding, stamping, bending, forming, and assembly.

CAD software.

Desired:

• Thermal and vibration analysis fundamentals.
• Materials engineering for high-temperature applications.
• CFD and CAE fundamentals.
• CAD software – NX

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Language:  English: Advanced
• High level of written and verbal communication skills
• Flexible Working time (due to difference in international time): Availability to support meetings and activities across North America, Japan, Brazil, Europe, and other global regions.
• Computer Skills:  

• Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Outlook).
• CAD software (NX preferred).
• Teamcenter. 
• Data analysis and reporting tools.

• Travel:

• Domestic and international travel.
• Visits to suppliers, manufacturing plants, test facilities, and Nissan engineering locations.
