Job Description

Location: Reed Business School, Cotswolds
Contract: Fixed-Term Contract (Family Leave Cover)
Salary: Competitive + Benefits

Nestled in the beautiful Cotswolds countryside, Reed Business School is home to a stunning Arts and Crafts garden that plays a central role in the character and appeal of our unique campus. We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Deputy Head Gardener to join our dedicated garden team on a fixed-term basis to cover a period of family leave.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate horticulturist who enjoys working hands-on in a diverse and evolving garden while supporting and leading a talented team.

About the Role

As Deputy Head Gardener, you will work closely alongside the Head Gardener and wider team to maintain and enhance our extensive Arts and Crafts garden. You'll be actively involved in all aspects of gardening while helping to guide and support the team through your knowledge, experience, and positive approach.

The role offers a great blend of practical horticulture and people leadership. You'll be trusted to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the garden whenever the Head Gardener is absent, ensuring high standards are maintained across the estate.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Working hands-on across all areas of the garden, maintaining exceptional horticultural standards.
  • Supporting the planning, development, and ongoing care of our Arts and Crafts garden.
  • Providing guidance, coaching, and support to members of the gardening team.
  • Taking responsibility for leading the team and overseeing operations in the Head Gardener's absence.
  • Contributing ideas and expertise to help the garden continue to thrive and evolve.
  • Carrying out a broad range of seasonal horticultural tasks including planting, pruning, lawn care, propagation, maintenance, and garden development projects.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a gardener through and through. Someone who enjoys being outdoors, takes pride in their work, and is keen to share their knowledge with others.

You'll ideally have:

  • Broad horticultural knowledge and practical gardening experience.
  • A genuine passion for gardening and landscape maintenance.
  • Strong people skills with the ability to motivate and support colleagues.
  • Previous experience supervising or leading others, either formally or informally.
  • A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to get stuck in.
  • An all-rounder mindset with the flexibility to tackle a wide variety of tasks.
  • A desire to continually learn and develop new skills.

Why Join Reed Learning?

At Reed Learning, we recognise that our people are our greatest asset. Alongside the opportunity to work in one of the Cotswolds' most beautiful garden settings, you'll benefit from an attractive rewards package, including:

  • Generous annual leave entitlement.
  • Reed Pension Scheme.
  • Life assurance.
  • Access to employee wellbeing support and assistance programmes.
  • Training and development opportunities.
  • Employee discounts and lifestyle benefits.
  • Recognition and long-service awards.
  • The opportunity to work within a supportive, collaborative, and values-driven organisation.

Ready to Grow With Us?

If you're an experienced gardener looking for a varied and rewarding opportunity where you can make a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and help us continue to develop and care for the beautiful gardens at Reed Business School.

We’re always on the lookout for people who want to make a difference and are passionate about helping others progress their careers.
