About the role:

As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the reliability, security, performance, and scalability of Delasport’s database platforms. You will be the subject-matter expert for our MySQL ecosystem, with a primary focus on large-scale, mission-critical on-premises environments.

You will work closely with Software Engineering, Platform Engineering, DevOps, and Product teams to deliver highly available and scalable database solutions. You will also support PostgreSQL as a secondary platform and contribute to our cloud database initiatives, including Google Cloud SQL.

In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will provide technical leadership to the DBA team, ensuring effective collaboration, prioritization, knowledge sharing, and alignment with the company’s technical and business objective. 

How You’ll Make an Impact:

• Own the administration, optimization, and continuous improvement of large-scale MySQL environments, primarily hosted on-premises.
• Ensure high availability, reliability, scalability, and performance for business-critical database services.
• Design, implement, and maintain replication, clustering, failover, load-balancing, and disaster-recovery solutions.
• Perform advanced performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, configuration tuning, and capacity planning.
• Develop, test, and maintain robust backup, recovery, and business-continuity procedures.
• Proactively monitor database health, identify bottlenecks, and drive improvements that reduce risk and downtime.
• Partner with engineering teams to improve data models, schema design, application database interactions, and release readiness.
• Define, document, and enforce database standards, operational procedures, security controls, and best practices.
• Lead root-cause investigations for database-related incidents and drive sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
• Automate recurring operational tasks and strengthen database observability, monitoring, and alerting.
• Evaluate, support, and optimize managed database services, with Google Cloud SQL considered a strong advantage.
• Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to DBA team members, supporting
  their professional and technical development.
• Drive knowledge sharing, best-practice adoption, automation, and continuous
  improvement across the DBA team. 

Employees may be required to participate in an on-call rotation, ensuring availability outside regular working hours to handle urgent issues as needed as per the On-call policy.

Who You Are:

• 5+ years of hands-on database administration experience in production environments.
• Deep expertise in MySQL administration, architecture, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Strong experience operating large-scale on-premises MySQL deployments.
• Proven experience with MySQL replication, high-availability architectures, clustering, and failover technologies.
• Extensive knowledge of backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business-continuity strategies.
• Strong GNU/Linux administration skills and experience analyzing operating-system and database performance.
• Advanced SQL skills, including the ability to optimize complex, high-volume transactional workloads.
• Experience with database monitoring, observability, and alerting platforms.
• Working knowledge of PostgreSQL administration, operations, and performance tuning.
• Familiarity with database security, auditing, encryption, access control, privacy, and data-integrity practices.
• Experience investigating and resolving production incidents under pressure.
• Strong analytical, algorithmic, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills with the ability to work independently and take ownership of complex database cases.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong interest in developing in a people leadership direction, or proven experience in leading, mentoring, or coordinating technical teams.
• Strong communication, prioritization, delegation, collaboration, and decisionmaking skills, with the ability and willingness to grow into a Team Lead role.

• Hands-on experience administering and optimizing Google Cloud SQL for MySQL.
• Experience migrating databases between on-premises and cloud environments.
• Broader familiarity with Google Cloud Platform and AWS services.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL replication, high availability, and advanced performance tuning.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, and operational automation.
• Experience with containerized environments and Kubernetes.
• Practical scripting experience with Bash, Python, Go, or a similar language.
• Familiarity with version-control platforms such as GitHub and Bitbucket.
• Experience in high-volume transactional industries such as gaming, fintech, e-commerce, or SaaS.
