Transform lives, every single day

Do you want a career that means more? At Anglicare Sydney, we bring the strength, support and strategy to make it happen.

We're a well-respected not-for-profit that's been serving society's most vulnerable for 170 years. Each year, we achieve life-changing outcomes for more than 40,000 people through person-centred support.

As our Community Engagement Officer - Peer Support, you'll be key to our mission to enrich lives and strengthen communities. You'll join a compassionate, respectful and purpose-driven team where our values of integrity, justice, compassion and excellence are lived every day.

Your opportunity

Based at the Brookvale Wellbeing Hub, you will build trusted relationships with young people aged 12-24, their families, community organisations and local services. Drawing on your lived experience of mental health challenges or recovery, you will help young people feel welcome, navigate support options and strengthen their connection to care.

You will combine community engagement with direct peer support, helping raise awareness of the Hub, develop referral pathways and deliver practical support through one-to-one engagement, groups, events and workshops.

With integrity and resilience, you will:

  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, youth groups, churches, clinicians, GPs and community organisations.

  • Develop and use referral pathways that increase awareness of and access to the Brookvale Youth Mental Health Hub.

  • Provide evidence-based one-to-one peer support, service navigation, advocacy and case management assistance.

  • Initiate and co-facilitate peer, psychosocial and therapeutic groups for young people and their families.

  • Plan outreach activities, community events, workshops and engagement content, including newsletters and social media contributions.

What you'll bring

You are an approachable and community-minded practitioner who can build trust with young people, families and diverse stakeholders. You communicate clearly, work collaboratively and understand the importance of safe, person-centred and evidence-based mental health support.

You share Anglicare's values of integrity, justice, compassion and excellence and can embed them in the way you engage with young people, families and community partners.

What's required

  • Certificate IV in Community Services, Mental Health or a related field, or status as a newly graduated practitioner within the first two years of practice.

  • Experience supporting people with complex mental health challenges and engaging with young people.

  • Demonstrated community engagement and stakeholder collaboration experience.

  • Strong knowledge of mental health supports, referral pathways, privacy and appropriate documentation requirements.

  • Unrestricted NSW driver licence, access to a comprehensively insured vehicle and a valid Working with Children Check.

What's preferred

  • Personal lived experience of mental health challenges or recovery that can be used safely and purposefully in peer work.

  • Experience in youth mental health, including facilitating groups, training or community workshops.

  • Knowledge of the Northern Beaches community and its local youth and mental health service networks.
