INTRODUCTION
Copeland’s Materials Engineering and Chemistry Department is comprised of metallurgy, chemistry, and polymer engineering and serves as a centralized technical resource supporting Copeland’s global business units, product platforms, and technology initiatives. The department provides expertise in material selection, sustainability initiatives, PFAS-free technology development, regulatory compliance, and failure analysis to support the evolving needs of Copeland’s products and customers worldwide. Based in Pune, India, we are seeking an individual knowledgeable in polymer science and engineering to provide material and technology solutions that advance current and future compressor system designs.
If you are POLYMER SCIENCE ENGINEERING professional with strong knowledge of Organic Chemistry seeking an opportunity to grow and make a global impact, we have an exciting opportunity for you! This position is based in our Pune, India location. In this role, you will provide polymer engineering support to multidisciplinary teams across Copeland to develop innovative polymer solutions for current and next-generation compressor technologies. for advancing current and future compressor system designs. In this role, you will evaluate current and new polymer materials, and processing methods using analytical and scientific tools. Responsibilities include material selection, failure analysis, sustainability initiatives, PFAS-free material evaluations, and the assessment of new materials and manufacturing processes using advanced analytical and scientific techniques
AS A POLYMER ENGINEER, YOU WILL:
- Work as an individual contributor in a collaborative team environment with minimal supervision.
- Provide polymer engineering support to Engineering, Product Development, Operations, and Supplier Quality teams.
- Coordinate with external laboratories to support material characterization, testing, and analysis requirements.
- Analyze and interpret test results, and prepare clear, concise technical reports.
- Conduct investigations to identify and characterize unknown polymeric materials.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement new materials and processing technologies to enhance current and future compressor system designs while improving performance, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
- Perform patent searches, generate innovative ideas, and prepare and submit Invention Disclosure disclosures.
- Present technical findings, recommendations, and project updates to local and global teams through technical reviews, meetings, and other forums.
WHO YOU ARE:
You are a self-motivated Polymer Science and Engineering professional with strong knowledge of organic chemistry, material characterization, and polymer processing. You enjoy solving complex material challenges, collaborating with global cross-functional teams, and leveraging analytical tools to develop innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions for engineering applications. You are a strong communicator with a passion for continuous learning, technology development, and material innovation.
FLEXIBLE WORK SCHEDULE-CORE HOURS
This role has the flexibility of a core hour schedule. You can choose to flex your start and stop times given you are working during the core hours of 9:00am - 3:00pm. Our teams work together to ensure our chosen work schedules enable our creativity and productivity as we serve the needs of our customers.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
- M.Sc./M.Tech. /Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Polymer Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of polymer science, organic chemistry, polymer processing, and material characterization techniques.
- Hands-on experience with analytical instruments such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, DMA, GC-MS, SEM, or similar material characterization tools.
- Experience in polymer material selection, failure analysis, formulation development, and troubleshooting of engineering applications.
- Understanding of sustainability requirements, regulatory compliance, and PFAS-free material evaluation is desirable.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as injection molding, extrusion, elastomer processing, or related polymer processing technologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with cross-functional and global teams.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical findings to diverse audiences.
- Curiosity, innovation mindset, and a passion for developing material solutions that enable next-generation products.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
· Knowledge of thermoforming and secondary processes of ultrasonic and laser welding, heat sealing, and application of tribological materials
· Hands on Moldflow or similar modeling tools
· Familiarity with Permeation Analyzer, XRF, SEM/EDX, microscopy
· Familiarity of fracture mechanics and degradation mechanisms
· Knowledge of HVACR compressors would be an added advantage.
