Job Summary

Synechron is seeking a Calypso Java Developer with 5+ years of total IT experience and strong hands-on expertise in Java development, Calypso APIs, and Calypso platform customizations. The role requires experience with Calypso v16 or above and expertise in at least one asset class, with a primary focus on Commodities.

The position is responsible for developing, enhancing, and supporting Calypso-based back-office applications that enable effective trade capture, confirmation, settlement, reconciliation, reporting, and related operational processes. The role contributes to business objectives by delivering reliable technology solutions, improving trade-processing workflows, resolving production issues, and supporting operations and trade-support users.

Software Requirements

Required Software Skills

  • Java: Minimum 5 years of professional development experience.

  • Calypso APIs: Demonstrable hands-on experience developing and enhancing Calypso solutions using Java and Calypso APIs.

  • Calypso: Experience with version 16 or above.

  • Calypso asset class expertise: Proven experience with the Commodities asset class; experience in another asset class group such as Fixed Income, FX, or Commodities may also be relevant where supported by project requirements.

  • Calypso customizations: Experience developing and maintaining Scheduled Tasks, Reports, and Engines.

  • Calypso message and sender frameworks: Good understanding of their configuration, implementation, and support.

  • Trade processing: Experience with trade settlement, reconciliation, reporting, confirmations, and payment notice processing in Calypso.

  • Development and support: Experience participating in planning, work estimation, testing, troubleshooting, and L2 support.

Preferred Software Skills

  • AWS: Exposure to cloud-based application environments.

  • Kubernetes: Experience supporting containerized applications or deployments.

  • Grafana: Exposure to application monitoring and operational dashboards.

  • Maven: Experience with Java project build and dependency management.

  • Jenkins: Experience supporting build and deployment pipelines.

  • CloudBees: Exposure to continuous integration and delivery environments.

  • Derivative products: Understanding of derivative products and their related trading and processing workflows.

Overall Responsibilities

  • Develop new features and enhancements for desks and operations users using Java and Calypso APIs.

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain back-office applications on the Calypso platform to support commodity trading operations.

  • Translate business and operational requirements into maintainable technical solutions that improve trade processing and settlement.

  • Implement and maintain workflows for trade capture, confirmation, settlement, reconciliation, reporting, and payment notice processing.

  • Design and maintain Calypso customizations, including Scheduled Tasks, Reports, and Engines.

  • Apply knowledge of Calypso message and sender frameworks to support accurate and timely processing.

  • Participate in planning sessions, estimate work effort, define implementation activities, and contribute to delivery plans.

  • Develop and execute unit, functional, integration, and regression tests for assigned changes.

  • Provide L2 support by investigating incidents, troubleshooting defects, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with operations, trade support, development, testing, and other technical teams to resolve issues and meet delivery commitments.

  • Maintain technical documentation, implementation details, support procedures, and knowledge-transfer materials.

  • Deliver solutions that improve processing accuracy, operational efficiency, system reliability, and user support outcomes.

  • Consider sustainability by developing reusable components, optimizing processing efficiency, reducing avoidable rework, and supporting maintainable application designs.

  • Asset class experience: Proven expertise in Commodities; experience with at least one asset class group, such as Fixed Income, FX, or Commodities, is required.

  • Functional experience: Strong understanding of trade settlement, reconciliation, reporting, confirmations, and payment notice processing in Calypso.

  • Customization experience: Hands-on experience with Calypso Scheduled Tasks, Reports, Engines, message frameworks, and sender frameworks.

  • Support experience: Experience troubleshooting Calypso applications, providing L2 support, investigating incidents, and resolving production issues.

  • Industry preference: Experience supporting banking, capital markets, commodity trading, financial operations, or other technology environments involving trade processing is preferred.

  • Alternative experience pathways: Candidates may qualify through equivalent practical experience demonstrating successful delivery and support of Java-based Calypso solutions, even where job titles or career progression differ from the stated role.

  • Work arrangement: The role is based in Pune (Hinjewadi), Bangalore (BCIT office), or Chennai and operates during the 12:00 PM–9:00 PM shift.

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Develop, enhance, test, and troubleshoot Calypso back-office applications, customizations, workflows, Scheduled Tasks, Reports, and Engines using Java and Calypso APIs.

  • Participate in planning sessions, requirement discussions, work estimation, technical reviews, and collaboration with operations, trade-support, development, and testing teams.

  • Deliver tested enhancements and support outcomes for trade capture, confirmation, settlement, reconciliation, reporting, and payment notice processes.

  • Investigate production issues, provide L2 support, make technical decisions within assigned scope, and escalate risks or dependencies that may affect delivery or operational continuity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of total IT experience, including at least 5 years of Java development experience.

  • Relevant experience with Calypso v16 or above, Calypso APIs, Commodities or another asset class group, and Calypso customizations.

  • Calypso, Java, cloud, or related technical certifications are preferred but are not specified as mandatory.

  • Maintain continuous professional development in Calypso capabilities, Java development, trading processes, cloud technologies, monitoring, automation, and secure software practices.

  • Apply structured analysis, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigation to resolve Calypso application and trade-processing issues.

  • Collaborate effectively with operations, trade-support, development, testing, and technical teams to deliver reliable solutions.
