About the Department

Berengarra, a multi storey 90 bed state of the art residential aged care facility comprises 60 mainstream and 30 Aged Persons’ Mental Health (APMH) beds designed to deliver contemporary best practice person centered care.

Berengarra is co-located with St George’s Hospital in Kew and compliments a suite of existing St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne’s residential facilities: Auburn House & Riverside House (each facility with 30 APMH beds); Cambridge House (30 bed mainstream facility); and Prague House (45 bed facility for people with a history of homelessness).

About the Role

The Associate Nurse Unit Manager, in the absence of the Nurse Unit Manager, will administer and manage the professional and operational resources of the unit.  The Associate Nurse Unit Manager, under the direction of the Nurse Unit Manager, will be responsible for providing mentoring and leadership across the unit and care team.  The Associate Nurse Unit Manager will support and assist the Nurse Unit Manager in achieving specific Key Performance Indicators.

Classifications for this position will range from classification range YW11 – YW12 ($97,770 - $101,056 per annum).

Duties

• Supervise and direct other staff as required in person centered care
• Maintain effective, professional and respectful relationships with residents, relatives, carers, and a broad range of community-based agencies, including general practitioners, community health services, sessional health providers and other residential services in order to coordinate service provision
• Respond to clinical changes in residents condition and initiate consultation with relevant medical/nursing and multidisciplinary team as required
• Ensure the continuous improvement approach informs service activities in accordance with the directions set by Residential Aged Care (RAC) Quality Council, and SVHM Quality and Risk Managers
• Accurately document resident care in accordance with health service guidelines
• Adhere to all aspects of confidentiality in regard to residents and health service staff

Qualifications, skills and experience

• Bachelor of Nursing
• Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Extensive experience in nursing providing patient centered care is essential
• You can demonstrate excellent leadership and organizational skills, including ability to direct, enthuse, motivate, support  and encourage
• You can demonstrate highly developed interpersonal, communication skills, including sound oral and writing skills that allow for effective communication with residents, visitors and staff at all levels.
• You must have an understanding of relevant legislation, of the principles and practice of aged care, and a sound working knowledge of the Commonwealth Residential Care Standards and accreditation
• Post registration qualification in Aged Care highly desirable
• Current experience as an Associate Nurse Unit Manager is highly desirable
