The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Marketing, this position will translate the Regional Insights and Engagement strategy for pancreatic cancer in Japan into actionable plans aligned with the brand and marketing strategies. Through sustained, high-quality engagement with key opinion leaders (KOLs), this position will gather insights into the treatment landscape, patient journey, unmet needs, and healthcare professionals’ perceptions and behaviors.

This position will also share insights from KOL engagement with Marketing, Sales, Medical Affairs, and other relevant functions to inform the development and execution of brand and customer engagement strategies.

Working closely with Medical Affairs and other functions, and respecting each function’s distinct roles and responsibilities, this position will advance thought leader engagement under appropriate governance and in compliance with applicable requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Thought Leader Mapping and Engagement Planning: Identify and prioritize key KOLs and thought leaders in pancreatic cancer in Japan based on the brand and marketing strategies. Develop and continuously update engagement plans tailored to regional and institutional characteristics and to each thought leader.

  • KOL Relationship Building and Engagement: Build sustained, high-quality relationships with key thought leaders and drive strategic engagement through in-person and virtual interactions based on individual engagement plans.

  • Insight Generation: Gather and analyze insights from KOL discussions on the treatment landscape, patient journey, unmet needs, and factors influencing treatment decisions, and use those insights to improve the brand and customer engagement strategies.

  • KOL Program Planning and Execution: Plan and execute marketing programs involving thought leaders, including speaker programs, peer-to-peer engagement, and jointly sponsored seminars, in collaboration with relevant functions.

  • Launch Readiness: Deepen understanding of the treatment landscape and unmet needs through thought leader engagement, and work with the brand team to advance product launch readiness.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Marketing, Sales, Medical Affairs, Training, Regulatory, Legal, Compliance, and other relevant functions. Respect each function’s roles and responsibilities while driving consistent thought leader engagement.

  • Project Management and Compliance: Manage the schedules, budgets, and external vendors for assigned thought leader engagement activities. Ensure high-quality, timely execution in compliance with applicable laws, industry standards, and company policies.

  • Team Management and Talent Development: Manage members of the Regional Insights and Engagement team. Support their growth and performance through goal setting, prioritization, coaching, and ongoing feedback. Build an environment in which the team can perform at a high level and develop its talent.

Required Skills, Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.

  • At least five years of relevant experience in oncology, particularly pancreatic cancer, in areas such as marketing, sales, or KOL engagement.

  • Experience planning and executing thought leader engagement programs, such as speaker programs, peer-to-peer programs, and jointly sponsored seminars.

  • Experience with launch readiness and post-launch sales and marketing activities for prescription pharmaceutical products.

  • Experience driving cross-functional projects with multiple internal functions, including Marketing, Sales, and Medical Affairs.

  • Strong knowledge of the Japanese pharmaceutical market and the laws, regulations, and industry standards governing the promotion of prescription pharmaceutical products.

  • People management experience, including goal setting, coaching, performance management, and talent development.

  • Strong interpersonal communication and relationship management skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously and set priorities in the field.

  • High level of Japanese language proficiency with the ability to communicate effectively in a professional business environment.

  • Flexibility to travel domestically.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience launching a new product in oncology.

  • Experience working in a biotechnology company or in the start-up phase of a new business or organization.

  • Ability to communicate and negotiate with thought leaders outside Japan and participate in meetings and collaboration with global teams in English.
