Job Overview
We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Band 4 Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join the Neuro Rehabilitation Team based at Ribbleton Clinic in Preston. This is an exciting opportunity to support qualified therapists in delivering specialised communication and swallowing rehabilitation to patients within their own homes and community clinic settings.
The successful candidate will work closely with registered therapists and other healthcare professionals to support patients throughout their rehabilitation journey. You will play an important role in helping patients improve their communication and swallowing abilities by carrying out delegated therapy activities, monitoring progress, and providing feedback to the supervising therapist.
This locum opportunity is ideal for someone with relevant experience in speech and language therapy support who is confident working independently in community settings and is passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Support qualified Speech and Language Therapists in delivering specialised communication and swallowing rehabilitation to patients in their homes and community clinics.
- Carry out delegated communication and swallowing (dysphagia) exercises in accordance with therapy plans developed by registered therapists.
- Travel independently to visit patients in community settings while maintaining regular communication with supervising clinicians.
- Work collaboratively with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to support effective community rehabilitation.
- Accurately record patient progress, maintain up-to-date clinical notes, and report any changes in patients' conditions to the supervising therapist.
- Follow clinical guidance, care plans, and relevant health and safety procedures to ensure safe and effective patient care.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- Relevant experience supporting Speech and Language Therapists or working in a healthcare or rehabilitation setting.
- An understanding of communication and swallowing difficulties, including dysphagia.
- The ability to follow delegated therapy programmes and work within the scope of your role.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- The confidence to work independently when visiting patients in their homes and community settings.
- The ability to maintain accurate clinical records and communicate patient progress effectively.
- A flexible, proactive, and compassionate approach to patient care.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
