The Opportunity
Teneo is seeking a fixed-term Public Affairs advisor to join our Strategy and Communications team in Hong Kong SAR.
This role focuses on advising select clients on public affairs, policy, regulatory engagement, and stakeholder strategy, particularly where business objectives intersect with government policy, regulatory change, and broader geopolitical dynamics. Hong Kong SAR is a highly visible, fast‑moving environment, requiring strong judgement, political and regulatory literacy, and the ability to advise senior leaders through complex and sensitive situations.
The role will suit candidates with proven experience advising on the Greater China public affairs landscape, corporate affairs, policy advisory, or closely related fields, whether from consultancy, in‑house, or adjacent professional services environments.
Responsibilities
Public affairs and policy advisory
• Advise clients on public affairs, regulatory, and policy‑related issues relevant to Hong Kong SAR and the wider Asia‑Pacific region.
• Support clients in anticipating and responding to political, regulatory, and stakeholder developments that may impact business operations or reputation.
• Contribute to stakeholder mapping, policy analysis, and engagement strategies aligned to client objectives.
Stakeholder, issues strategy and execution

In addition, you will be expected to:
• Work as a core member of integrated client teams, supporting public affairs and policy advisory engagements across Hong Kong SAR and the region.
• Help ensure consistently high standards of delivery by supporting project coordination, research, and quality assurance.
• Contribute ideas and analysis that inform client strategies, drawing on policy, regulatory, and stakeholder insights.
• Engage actively with the wider Teneo team to build skills, share knowledge, and support the firm’s public affairs work across Asia Pacific.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in public policy, political science, international relations, law, economics, communications, or a related field.
• Approximately 5–7 years’ experience in public affairs, policy advisory, corporate affairs, or related roles, either in consultancy or in‑house.
• Strong understanding of Hong Kong SAR's political, regulatory, and stakeholder environment, with awareness of regional and global dynamics.
• Experience advising clients or internal stakeholders on policy, regulatory, or government‑related issues.
• Ability to synthesise complex political or regulatory developments into clear, practical advice.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing executive‑level briefing materials.
• Strong project management and organisational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.

Your primary role will be to provide support in our client and engagement acceptance process, including performing conflict reviews, customer due diligence to ensure we have understood who Teneo will be providing services to from a risk and reputation standpoint, as well as compliance with our Anti-Money Laundering requirements for the regulated parts of Teneo’s business.
We will accept candidates with or without directly applicable experience and full training will be provided as required.
Location: The client and engagement acceptance team is primarily based in Cardiff. As the team also supports the business globally, the role will be required to work hours of 12:00 to 20:30 (GMT) including some England & Wales public or bank holidays where those days can be taken as additional annual leave (on other dates).

The Management Consulting Team at Teneo
Our Management Consulting division focuses on answering key strategic questions for business leaders through our mix of senior experience and rigorous analysis, combined with the unique expertise that exists across Teneo. We operate across a diverse array of sectors including Consumer Goods, Leisure & Hospitality, Transport, and TMT, amongst others. Within these markets, we provide strategic, operational, and due diligence support, advising reputable Fortune 500 and FTSE 100 firms, key public-sector organizations, and leading private equity houses.

As a Senior Consultant, you’ll be an accomplished, consistent, and effective member of the Management Consulting team whose focus is on providing expert support to Managers, Directors, and Managing Directors in the efficient delivery of cases, as well as managing smaller cases or discrete workstreams within larger, more complex cases.

Base Salary Range
$167,000 – $195,000 (compensation for this role will depend on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience that may fall outside of the range listed).

Includes annualized bonus, 401k match, healthcare coverage, and a broad range of additional benefits and rewards.
Hybrid Flexible Work Policy
Teneo believes in in-person collaboration when possible. If you are assigned to the New York office, the company expectation is for employees to work from the office location a minimum of three times a week.

As Teneo continues to grow its operations in Asia-Pacific, we are looking for a high calibre candidate to join our dynamic and professional Strategy and Communications team as an Intern based in the firm's Shanghai or Beijing office.
As an Intern, you will gain insight into our integrated advisory offering by supporting the wider team to produce high quality research and provide insight to our diverse set of clients.
