The Role

SoFi is launching a brand-new commercial banking product — and we need a Staff Software Engineer to be its technical backbone.

Commercial Banking is SoFi's entry into institutional commercial banking. We're building the infrastructure that lets large institutional clients in crypto, fintech, and enterprise finance manage their money at SoFi — real-time payments, multi-account treasury management, and a closed-loop settlement network that operates 24/7/365. The systems you design will handle real institutional money from day one. The network you help architect — SEN (SoFi Exchange Network) — could become the default settlement rail for the industry.

As the Senior Staff Engineer on the Commercial Banking team, you'll be the technical leader the team looks to for the hardest problems — system design, API contracts, payment correctness, performance, and reliability. You'll set the technical bar, make architectural decisions that stick, and write the code that proves them out. This is a hands-on role: you'll be deep in the codebase while also shaping the direction for the engineers around you.

What You'll Do

Architect and Build

• Own the technical architecture for Commercial Banking's core systems — payment orchestration, client onboarding workflows, API Gateway, real-time settlement, and the services that power the client-facing experience.
• Design and implement the SoFi Exchange Network (SEN) — a real-time, 24/7/365 closed-loop payment network enabling instant settlement between SoFi commercial clients.
• Build the client onboarding orchestrator: a stateful workflow engine that provisions entities, bank accounts, entitlements, payment rails, limits, and pricing — with retry, rollback, and idempotency guarantees.
• Design enterprise-grade identity, RBAC, and maker/checker approval systems that support complex organizational structures with scoped account access, per-rail permissions, and configurable payment limits.
• Define API contracts that institutional clients will integrate against — getting the abstractions, error models, and versioning right from day one.
• Architect a sandbox environment that realistically simulates every payment rail, enabling clients to build and test their integrations with confidence.

Set the Technical Standard

• Establish system design patterns, coding standards, and engineering best practices for the Commercial Banking codebase.
• Drive technical decisions on data modeling, service boundaries, consistency guarantees, and failure handling across payment workflows where correctness is non-negotiable.
• Own observability strategy — structured logging, distributed tracing, alerting, and dashboards that give the team confidence in production.
• Lead technical design reviews and code reviews. Raise the quality bar and make it stick through example, not just feedback.
• Identify and address technical debt proactively — knowing when to take shortcuts for speed and when to invest in the right long-term solution.

Lead Through Influence

• Be the go-to technical leader on the team — the person engineers come to when they're stuck on a design problem, a performance issue, or a tricky integration.
• Mentor engineers at all levels. Help senior engineers grow toward staff-level thinking; help mid-level engineers develop stronger system design instincts.
• Partner with engineering management to shape the technical roadmap, estimate complexity, and sequence work for maximum impact.
• Drive cross-team technical alignment with other engineering teams at SoFi — working across identity, entitlements, accounts, payments, and core banking systems to ensure clean integration points.
• Represent the team's technical perspective in discussions with Product, Compliance, Risk, and Operations — translating business requirements into sound engineering decisions.

Make It Production-Ready

• Design systems that handle real money with the reliability and correctness that institutional clients demand — every transaction must be accounted for, every failure mode handled.
• Build for scale from day one — systems that work for early clients but are architected to support hundreds without rework.
• Own the technical side of client go-live: integration health checks, performance validation, monitoring readiness, and production cutover.
• Drive incident response and post-mortems. Build a culture where production issues are learning opportunities, not blame events.

What You'll Need

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, with a sustained track record of technical leadership on complex, production-critical systems.
• Deep distributed systems expertise — you can design services end-to-end, reason about consistency and ordering guarantees, and make pragmatic tradeoffs between correctness, availability, and latency.
• Hands-on mastery of JVM-based stacks (Kotlin or Java, Spring Boot) and modern infrastructure (Kubernetes, AWS/GCP, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines).
• Strong API design sensibility — you've designed APIs that external consumers depend on, and you understand the long-term cost of getting contracts wrong.

What you'll need:

• 10+ years of programming experience, with significant experience in modern languages and familiarity with AI tools.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Engineering Enablement (Builder Tools) engineering team with a mission to enable SoFi engineers to innovate in fintech and elegantly solve problems. In this role, you will be a key contributor to the design, development and scalability of our developer productivity tooling. You will elevate developer experience by enabling engineers with foundational systems. You will take on complex and interesting problems in a fast-paced, and highly collaborative organization. The Role

This is a hands-on EM role for the Digital Identity — Access & Rights team. The team builds and operates the Entitlements and Authorization platforms, two Tier-0 services every SoFi product depends on. Combined these two platforms are the single sources of truth for what benefits does a member have and what are they allowed to do. The right candidate pairs deep operational rigor with a genuine investment in coaching engineers, ships with modern AI tooling as a default, and moves fast with a just-do-it attitude.

You will inherit a strong, senior team of engineers already delivering against a dense roadmap that directly enables SoFi’s top tech initiatives such as Big Business Banking, SoFi Plus, Small Medium Business as well as other offerings. 

The Team You Will Join

The Digital Identity group owns customer identity, relationships, access control, and benefits distribution across all of SoFi. The Access & Rights team specifically owns two platforms that sit on the critical path for every member interaction: Entitlements (the generic connection graph mapping each entity to its accounts, benefits, and other resources) and Authorization (evaluating fine-grained permissions for every authenticated request). Our consumers include all of SoFi and we are a direct enabler to increased product velocity. 

You will partner closely with a product manager, and stakeholders across Crypto, Money, Member, Benefits, and Galileo engineering.

What You'll Do

• Lead and Grow Your Team: Lead and grow the team while maintaining or improving the team’s velocity. Manage performance with care and high standards, including the hard conversations. 
• Drive Technical Strategy & Execution: Own the planning, technical output, and delivery for the Digital Identity - Access & Rights team. Own operational excellence for two Tier-0 platforms. Set and defend SLOs, while holding the on-call posture accountable, and treat production quality as a management responsibility, not an IC concern. Review design documents, push back on senior engineers when the architecture does not hold up, pair with your team in AI-augmented coding sessions, and ship production code when the situation demands it.
• Collaborate and Influence: Establish and leverage strong relationships across the department and cross-functional leadership teams, partnering closely with product and other engineering teams to integrate solutions and define product and technical strategy..

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing, building, and operating scalable, mission-critical backend systems, with 2+ years directly managing engineers.
• Proven track record running a high traffic Tier-0 or equivalent critical platform: defined SLOs, owned on-call, led major incident reviews, and drove measurable reliability improvements.
• Deep experience with platform-style engineering: API contracts, versioning, backward compatibility, consumer migration, and deprecation discipline. You have managed a platform team with many downstream consumers, not just a feature team.
• Active, daily user of modern AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or equivalent). Concrete examples of how you have used AI to accelerate your own output or your team's throughput. 
• Demonstrated ability to drive outcomes across team boundaries without escalation authority. You have led multi-quarter initiatives that required alignment across three or more engineering orgs.
• Hands-on technical depth in Java or Kotlin, with practical knowledge of REST APIs, event-driven systems, and relational or key-value data stores. Comfortable in design reviews and code reviews. Willing to write production code when the team needs a tiebreaker.
• Excellent written communication. You have written TDDs, post-mortems, and roadmap updates that senior leaders trusted without needing translation.
• Bias for action: absorbs ambiguity and resolves it, escalates it upward when the situation warrants.

The Role:

The Encompass Administrator Team is responsible for all configuration and customization of the company’s Loan Origination System (LOS) and to assist with the management of ancillary systems and services that are integrated with Encompass. This position requires in-depth knowledge of the loan origination workflow. The Encompass Administrator works closely with the Senior Encompass Admins, Product, and Management to evaluate business processes, data integrity, and compliance issues as they relate to the loan origination systems.

• Use your Encompass experience to provide frontline user support by troubleshooting and resolving day to day Encompass issues.

As a hands-on platform engineer, you’ll shape the future of SoFi’s web platform infrastructure—enabling consistency, performance, and scalability across products. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, product, design, infrastructure, and executive leadership to define and execute a strategic vision that supports company-wide goals.

The team will be an AI-first team, adopting LLM/agentic-powered technologies to accelerate and scale our web platform. An engineer should ideally be excited about learning and integrating with these new tools.

The Role

You will be the technical leader for Digital Identity at SoFi: the platform group that powers identity, authorization, and entitlements for every product and every member across the company. Digital Identity runs Tier-0 infrastructure: the highest criticality rating at SoFi. Every product line, banking, lending, investing, credit cards, crypto depends on these platforms to know who a member is, what they're entitled to, and what they're authorized to do. When these platforms are down, SoFi is down.You'll define the technical strategy for this group. You'll build the engineering processes and culture that let a lean team operate Tier-0 infrastructure with confidence. What You'll Own

Platform Technical Strategy: Digital Identity operates multiple Tier-0 platforms spanning identity resolution, entitlement management, and fine-grained authorization. You own the technical strategy across all of them: setting the architectural direction, executing and leading designs, and ensuring the platforms evolve as a coherent system rather than independent services.

Complex Authorization Architecture: SoFi is expanding into scenarios where multiple people interact with shared financial resources: across business, family, and custodial contexts. You'll design the unified platform architecture that handles these patterns at scale: consistent access models, compliance-grade audit trails, and enforcement of regulatory requirements. This is one platform problem with many product surfaces.

Cross-Organization Platform Convergence: SoFi operates and integrates with multiple technology organizations with overlapping identity and authorization infrastructure. You'll lead the architectural vision for convergence: a shared platform primitives that multiple organizations consume while preserving the flexibility each product line needs. This requires navigating competing priorities, different technical stacks, and organizational boundaries.

Operational Excellence & Data Integrity: Tier-0 financial platforms demand more than uptime. You'll architect the verification and reconciliation systems that prove these platforms are correct:  automated integrity checks, drift detection, and self-healing mechanisms. You'll establish the operational processes, incident response standards, and reliability practices that let the team ship with confidence and sleep at night.

Engineering Culture & Team Uplift: You'll raise the bar for how this team builds software. That means establishing rigorous design review processes, defining engineering standards that compound over time, mentoring senior ICs into technical leaders, and creating the feedback loops that turn incidents into prevention. Strategic Investment Identification: You won't just execute on the roadmap handed to you. The Role
