Role Background
- The Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) in Stavanger, Norway is NATO's premier warfare development and training centre. Its Wargaming Branch designs, executes, and analyses strategic- and operational-level wargames supporting NATO's Warfare Development Agenda. We are seeking a Wargaming Analyst to support the analytical backbone of this process — from data collection planning through post-game reporting — ensuring wargames effectively meet sponsor training and analytical objectives.
Role Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop research questions and analytical frameworks aligned to sponsor objectives
- Author the Data Collection and Analysis Plan (DCAP), including survey design and data stream identification
- Lead data collection during wargame development, execution, and post-conduct phases
- Train and supervise analysis team members (data collectors, post-game analysts)
- Author wargame reports: hot wash-ups, after-action reviews, final/analysis reports
- Support sponsor's internal analysis processes
- Contribute to Wargaming Branch conceptual development and innovation
Essential Skills, Experience and Certifications
- 3+ years multidisciplinary experience in planning, coordinating, designing, or analysing training/analytical events (wargames, TTXs, exercises, experiments)
- NATO OF-3 (Major/equivalent) rank or above on departure from active service, OR civilian equivalent, OR Bachelor's/advanced degree in a relevant field
- Demonstrated experience authoring detailed reports (project, exercise, or analytical)
- Familiarity with NATO or national military doctrine, policy, and processes
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, SharePoint)
