Job Description Summary:

The Visual Designer will lead the visual and interface design of our public facing digital mental health campaign. This role blends brand identity development with digital interface design, ensuring our website, social media, and campaign materials are visually cohesive, accessible, and tailored to a rural Kansas audience. This role may also support related faculty-led projects within the Department of Population Health.

Job Description:

Job Duties

• Brand Identity: Create and maintain logos, color palettes, typography, and icon sets that align with the project's brand guidelines and rural tone.
• Digital Interfaces: Design clear, engaging UI/UX layouts for web and mobile experiences, including wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
• Content and Campaign Design: Create flyers, social media graphics, and other visual assets in line with the campaign's content calendar.
• Teamwork: Collaborate closely with the Health Communications, marketing, and technical teams to ensure design decisions support overall project and outreach goals.
• Other health communication initiatives within the Department of Population Health as directed by the supervising faculty lead.
• Conducts activities in a professional and ethical manner, and in accordance with KUMC Policies and applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations.
• Performs job responsibilities in a safe and secure manner.
• Coordinate work with other University areas ensure integration and support of the University mission.
• Develops, maintains and expands job-specific knowledge and skills to keep pace with industry changes and supports the university's commitment to excellence and innovation.
• Participates in relevant committees, task force, or other similar activities.
• Maintain confidentiality of medical center, employee, and patient information. Manages sensitive data with discretion and in accordance with KUMC policies and legal requirements.
• Maintains the highest standards of integrity, respect, professional conduct, and ethical standards.

Required Qualifications

Work Experience:

• Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in UI/UX design and graphic design.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in visual communication design, UI/UX design, or a related field.

Work Experience:

• Experience with software design tools (Figma, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop)
• Knowledge of design fundamentals (color theory, typography, layout and composition)
• Project management experience

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
