The Videographer Student Worker supports the Student Engagement MAD (Marketing & Advertising Design) Team by creating high-quality video content that captures and promotes GCU student experiences, events, programs, and initiatives.

This position works directly from campaign needs provided by Student Engagement partners and campaign owners, transforming concepts and requests into engaging visual content. 

This role is designed to provide students with meaningful, hands-on experience in video production, storytelling, creative collaboration, and professional communication. Students will develop technical and creative skills while building a professional portfolio and gaining experience working within a collaborative marketing and communications environment. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Capture video content for Student Engagement events, programs, campaigns, and initiatives.  

  • Film interviews, student experiences, event highlights, promotional content, and other video projects assigned.  

  • Edit video content for social media, promotional materials, internal communications, and other departmental needs.  

  • Collaborate with campaign owners to understand campaign goals, messaging, audience, and deliverables.  

  • Translate campaign requests into engaging visual stories while maintaining the intended message and brand standards.  

  • Operate cameras, audio equipment, lighting, and other video production equipment.  

  • Set up, operate, and maintain video equipment before, during, and after production.  

  • Organize, label, store, and maintain video footage and digital assets.  

  • Assist with planning and coordinating video shoots, including locations, schedules, equipment, and talent.  

  • Participate in event coverage both independently and as part of the MAD Team.  

  • Ensure video content is visually consistent with GCU and Student Engagement branding 

  • Meet project deadlines and communicate progress, challenges, and production needs to the Project Coordinator.  

  • Incorporate feedback and revisions into completed video projects.  

  • Stay current with video production, editing, storytelling, and social media trends.  

  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and creative team culture.  

  • Build professional skills through hands-on experience, feedback, mentorship, and creative projects.

General Requirements 

  • Demonstrate professionalism while representing Grand Canyon University.  

  • Work effectively both independently and collaboratively.  

  • Communicate professionally with students, faculty, staff, and campaign owners.  

  • Be available to work approximately 10 hours per week during the academic year.  

  • Be available to work on occasional evenings or weekends for events and video shoots as needed.  

  • Ability to work both in-office and remotely depending on project needs. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Strong interest in videography, filmmaking, visual storytelling, media production, or a related creative field.  

  • Basic understanding of video production and editing principles.  

  • Familiarity with cameras, audio equipment, lighting, and video production workflows.  

  • Experience with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar programs.  

  • Strong attention to detail and visual composition.  

  • Ability to tell compelling stories through video.  

  • Ability to receive and apply creative feedback.  

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.  

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.  

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.  

  • Self-motivated and willing to learn new techniques, equipment, and software.  

  • Ability to problem-solve creatively in fast-paced production environments. 

 

Education and/or Experience:   

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Current Grand Canyon University student in good academic standing.

  • Pursuing a degree in Film, Digital Film, Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, Media Production, or a related field.  

  • Interest in developing professional videography and video production skills.  

  • Willingness to learn and contribute to a variety of creative projects. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience creating or editing video content.  

  • Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro or other video editing software.  

  • Familiarity with DSLR/mirrorless cameras or other professional video equipment.  

  • Experience filming events, interviews, social media content, or promotional videos.  

  • Portfolio, reel, class projects, personal projects, or previous creative work demonstrating video production skills.  

  • Experience working on a creative team, student organization, internship, or similar environment. 

Experience/Education: 
Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all applicants must meet the 
following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment: 
• Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program. 
• Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student. 
• Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University. 
 
You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements. 


Pay Rate: Minimum Wage 
Anticipated End Date: June 30, 2027
