ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Technical Editor to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico and has been approved for work in a remote capacity.
Responsibilities
Support the development, review, and maintenance of Safety Basis documentation for nuclear and high-hazard facilities.
Edit, format, and quality-check technical and regulatory documents, including:
Documented Safety Analyses (DSAs)
Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs)
Hazard Analyses
Supporting calculations
Safety Evaluation Reports
Change packages
Ensure documentation complies with applicable DOE orders, standards, and site-specific requirements, including DOE O 420.1 and 10 CFR 830.
Improve clarity, organization, consistency, and readability of highly technical material without changing technical intent.
Apply and enforce document standards, templates, style guides, and configuration management requirements.
Collaborate with authors, engineers, nuclear safety analysts, and subject matter experts to resolve comments and improve document quality.
Support internal reviews, audits, and readiness activities by preparing documents for approval and submittal.
Track revisions, manage comment resolution, and maintain version control.
Work closely with technical SMEs in a highly regulated, compliance-driven environment.
Learn and understand complex technical subject matter.
Requirements
Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in English, journalism, technical communication, or a physical/social science and 6+ years of relevant experience.
Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
Demonstrated experience editing technical, engineering, nuclear, or regulatory documentation.
Strong command of grammar, technical writing style, document structure, and consistency.
Experience working with subject matter experts in highly regulated environments.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and document control tools.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple documents, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a highly regulated and compliance-driven environment.
Ability to quickly learn complex technical subject matter.
About the Site
The NNSA's Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, is a design laboratory responsible for the safety and reliability of the nuclear explosives package in nuclear weapons. This lab possesses unique capabilities in neutron scattering, enhanced surveillance, radiography, and plutonium science and engineering (energy.gov).
