Role Description

We are currently looking for an experienced Tax Director to join the Finance Team at Low Carbon, reporting directly to the Group Head of Tax. Internally, this role is aligned to our specialist manager capability framework and is suited to a senior tax professional who can own complex activity, apply deep specialist judgement and provide clear, commercially grounded advice across the Group.

The Tax Director will lead tax reporting and advisory activity for the Group, ensure accurate and timely compliance with local regulations, and take a proactive view on tax risk, relief opportunities, operational efficiency and internal decision-making. The role will work closely with senior internal stakeholders, external advisers, service providers and tax authorities across multiple jurisdictions, challenging assumptions where appropriate and helping to shape best practice within the Group.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and lead direct and indirect tax reporting for UK and overseas entities, ensuring accurate, timely and well-controlled compliance.
• Lead key tax workstreams, including tax provisions, transfer pricing, R&D, capital allowances, CIR and anti-hybrid matters, taking a clear view on complex technical and commercial issues.
• Maintain and develop tax governance, controls and risk management processes, escalating key matters with clear recommendations and judgement.
• Monitor tax legislative changes, assess the impact on the Group’s operations, reporting and projects, and translate technical developments into practical business actions.
• Identify and lead improvements to tax processes through technology, automation, data quality and more efficient ways of working.
• Coordinate tax audits and manage relationships with external advisers, service providers and tax authorities, ensuring third-party support is well-directed, value-adding and aligned to Group priorities.
• Partner with senior internal stakeholders to provide clear, solution-focused tax advice, challenge assumptions and support robust decision-making across the business.

Skills & Experience

• Qualified tax professional with significant post-qualification experience in industry and/or practice, including experience operating at senior manager, director or equivalent level.
• Strong specialist capability across direct tax, indirect tax, employment tax, SDLT, transfer pricing, R&D, capital allowances, CIR, cross-border, real estate and international tax matters.
• Experienced in using ERP systems, tax technology and data analysis tools to improve tax processes, strengthen controls and support automation.
• Able to balance complex technical tax considerations with practical, commercially aware advice, influencing stakeholders and helping the business make informed decisions.
• A critical and independent thinker with strong judgement, problem-solving and analytical skills, able to challenge assumptions and recommend a clear course of action.
• Organised, collaborative and credible with senior stakeholders, with the ability to own multiple complex workstreams and manage third-party providers effectively.
