We are hiring a Systems Engineer in Honolulu.

This is project and escalation work. You will run migrations, take the tickets that get handed up from the service desk, build and clean up client environments, and have real input into what a client should do next. You will also be one of the people our Systems Administrators learn from.

Most people who do well here spent a few years on a service desk first and are ready for work with more depth to it. If you find yourself more interested in why something broke than in how fast you closed it, that is the right instinct for this seat.

This job is on-island
You need to live in Hawaii and be able to get to client sites. This is not a remote position, but it is hybrid. Work from home is on the table.

Our clients are here and their equipment is here. We have been earning their trust in person. Our engineers also spend a lot of time teaching our Systems Administrators, and that goes better in the same room.

We are putting real effort into automation, which means our engineers spend less time repeating the same work and more time on problems that are actually interesting.

Our compliance practice is also growing. We build and manage secure enclaves for clients who have to meet CMMC and NIST 800-171 requirements. If either of those is where you want your career to go, tell us in your application.

Requirements

What do I need to bring to the table?
Be a good person first. The engineers here are good teachers, with clients and with the techs around them. They take a project from quote through deployment and own it. They will methodically work a problem for as long as it takes, and they ask for help when they are stuck.

Be curious. You do not need to spend your weekends in a home lab. You do need to go find out how something works instead of waiting for someone to explain it.

Write things down. We care a lot about ticket notes and documentation. If you have ever written up an ugly problem so the next tech would not have to suffer through it, you will fit in here.

Other requirements
You must live in Hawaii. A valid driver's license and a car are required for planned and unplanned onsite visits.

The technical side
This is the working knowledge we use day to day:

• Core networking: DNS, DHCP, routing, subnetting, VLANs
• Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DFS, and domain controller migrations
• Microsoft 365 administration, migrations, and tenant management
• Entra ID: identity, conditional access, MFA rollouts
• Azure infrastructure and architecture
• Virtualization: Hyper-V and VMware
• Endpoint management and security baselines (Intune, EDR)
• Email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and multi-factor providers (Entra MFA, Duo)
• SAN and NAS high-availability technologies
• Remote Desktop Services: RD Gateway, session hosts
• PowerShell scripting and automation inside MSP tooling
• Server hardware quoting and troubleshooting (we are a Dell shop)
• Documentation: network diagrams, runbooks, configuration records

Nobody has all of it. If you are strong in most of it, apply.

Certifications
Microsoft certifications carry the most weight here. The three we care about most are MD-102 for endpoint and Intune, SC-300 for identity and conditional access, and AZ-104 for Azure infrastructure. AZ-305 comes later, once AZ-104 is behind you and you are scoping migrations instead of running them. Network+ and Security+ are nice to have.

None of them are required to apply and we do not screen on them. We pay for training and testing, and certification pay is added on top of your base salary. If you are strong everywhere else and short a cert, apply anyway.
