The Role

Your Role

As a Mainframe DB2 System Programmer, you will be responsible for administering, maintaining, and enhancing IBM DB2 for z/OS environments across development, test, and production systems. You will collaborate closely with application teams, DBAs, z/OS system programmers, and infrastructure teams to resolve complex technical issues and support critical business applications.

What you will do

• Monitor and tune DB2 subsystem performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement proactive improvements.
• Collaborate with Database Administrator, storage, operations, and infrastructure teams to support critical business applications.
• Support disaster recovery, automation initiatives, and 24x7 operational excellence while ensuring compliance with organizational standards.
• Support application teams with database design, migrations, schema changes, and problem resolution.

Required skills and Experience

• 12+ years of hands-on experience in IBM Db2 for z/OS system programming, administration, and support within large-scale enterprise mainframe environments.
• Strong expertise in DB2 subsystem installation, configuration, customization, and maintenance for both standalone and Data Sharing environments.
• Proven experience with Parallel Sysplex architecture, Db2 Data Sharing concepts, Coupling Facility structures, CFRM policies, and locking mechanisms.
• Solid understanding of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies, including Image Copy, FlashCopy, mirroring technologies, and recovery planning.
• Proficiency in REXX, CLIST, ISPF, and automation techniques to streamline operational and administrative activities.
• Working knowledge of CICS and IMS environments, including their integration and interaction with Db2 workloads.
• Experience with SMP/E processes, software upgrades, migrations, maintenance activities, and implementation of Db2 version enhancements and fixes.
• Strong skills in Db2 health checks, security administration, performance tuning, patch management, and analysis using traces, SMF, RMF, and WLM metrics.

Preferred skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Good understanding of Parallel Sysplex, Db2 Data Sharing environments, and distributed systems problem determination.
• Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills for complex Db2 and z/OS infrastructure issues.
• Experience working with IBM support processes, including PMR/case management and vendor coordination for problem resolution.
• Ability to analyze cross-platform connectivity, performance, and availability issues impacting distributed applications.
