Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing effective leadership and supervision of a traveling mechanical maintenance team in the performance of assigned mechanical maintenance, equipment maintenance and preventive maintenance activities in Steam Turbine generating facilities.

Job Responsibilities

Provide effective leadership and supervision for the safe completion of all assigned mechanical maintenance activities, equipment maintenance, preventive maintenance, craft training, contract administration, and human performance development.

• Direct and delegate work activities to ensure compliance with work management and schedule requirements during routine, outage and project assignments.
• Ensure crew compliance with Duke Energy Safety and Environmental guidelines and OSHA guidelines by coaching, practicing and setting the example for safe job performance
• Manage budget expenditures and projections and understand budgeting and the project submittal process
• Lead and facilitate team meetings, prepare and deliver written or verbal communications and presentations, and identify and enforce work standards in accordance with all applicable procedures
• Provide technical implementation, repair quality control for turbine, generator,  and associated equipment
• Staff and oversee multiple (2 to 4) projects in various stages of development, planning and execution
• Serve as Designated Representative or Single Point of Contact for contractor work when appropriate. Administer contract terms and conditions as required
   

Provide effective interface with employees/peers. Informs management of safety, budget, schedule and quality issues. In addition, provide suggestions and proposals to correct issues that negatively impact safety, employee morale, budget, schedule and work quality.  
 

Support the development and execution of mobilization, implementation and demobilization plans for all assigned projects in accordance with applicable procedures. Plans include; safety plan, resource plan, cost plan, lay down plan, mobilization plan, work schedule, contractor use plan, milestone schedules and equipment clearance plan. 
 

Provides work schedules for assigned team that identify effective use of resources without compromising safety or quality. Schedules include weekly, 52 Week and training.
 

Secure and maintain all assigned mobile facilities, vehicles, tooling and materials. 
 

Provide employee performance/development documentation with recommendations for continuous improvement of craft and technical skills. Establish a climate for learning and lead in the application of human performance tools and techniques. 

Basic Qualifications

• High School / GED
• 5 years minimum required related work experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree
• 7 years related work experience

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Must be able to work within matrixed teams and work to provide effective craft leadership and project implementation
• Leadership of large scale turbine outages, major projects and routine maintenance support
• Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills 

Working Conditions

• Field Mobility Classification - Work location is highly mobile, working at various facilities or field locations with occasional onsite meetings after the onboarding period. Employee must live within a reasonable commute to the posted reporting location, not greater than 50 miles one way
• Travel Required: >50+%
• Hot, loud conditions inside a plant environment
• Able to traverse up and down stairs
• Be familiar with site specific radiological standards and dress out requirements
