ABOUT THE ROLE 

We are seeking a Strategist with experience in climate issues (particularly on aviation)) for a contractor position to support a Purpose strategy and research project. This professional will work closely with the Project Lead to design and execute qualitative research, engage with stakeholders and issue experts, and draft recommendations for our clients. This will particularly pertain to sustainable aviation in Indonesia, but could also be expanded to climate issues in other geographies and time zones. 

Purpose is conducting a narrative mapping and message testing exercise for a client to understand which sustainable aviation solutions resonate with decision makers and industry leaders in India and Indonesia. The project will include expert interviews, digital research and social listening, and message testing for final narratives in India. The final deliverable will be a set of recommendations for the solutions that work best in each region, and the kinds of messengers that are most effective.

Key responsibilities

Expert Interviews

• Identify (in partnership with the Project Lead and client) a list of experts to interview (in the aviation sector in India and Indonesia
• Conduct desk research on sustainable aviation solutions order to prepare interview guides 
• Conduct interviews with issue experts to explore current perceptions, gaps, and priorities around key solutions 
• Synthesis of interview results into broader trends that can be reported back to the client
• Support Project Lead with interviews in India 

Narrative and Actor Tracking

• Working with Purpose’s digital campaigners, tracking the key narratives and actors that have gained traction in the sustainable aviation space
• Identify influential messengers and decision makers for each of these solutions (including industry bodies, policy advisory, content creators, etc.) 

Recommendation writing and delivery

• Support the creation of research reports and final recommendations by aggregating and summarising results
• Coordinate with the team members to pull results from social listening, digital research, expert interviews, to develop shareback reports for the client

Requirements:

• 6 to 8  years of experience designing and executing research on technical climate issues, with a focus on aviation, or related fields like clean fuel, industry innovation, etc.
• Experience in digital research, narrative research, and message testing
• Ability to design and conduct client-facing interviews and sharebacks with ease
• Skilled in analysing results and developing relevant recommendations from research.
• Proven ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and maintain high organisational standards.
• Strong writing, storytelling, and communication skills to move audiences and build support.
• Strong teamwork skills, comfortable in a highly collaborative team culture 
• Commitment to building an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
• Fluency in English and Bahasa  (written and spoken).
