The Los Angeles Equestrian Center (LAEC) is a one-of-a-kind, 75-acre property nestled in the heart of Griffith Park, dedicated to the love of horses and the equestrian community. LAEC offers a welcoming space for equine enthusiasts and professionals alike, providing boarding facilities, training arenas, and a calendar of events that range from local competitions to prestigious equestrian showcases. In addition to serving as a hub for horse-related activities, LAEC is also home to various special events, blending the charm of nature with the energy of LA's cultural scene.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Barn and Stall Maintenance:
- Clean and maintain assigned stalls, barns, aisles, wash racks, and adjacent areas daily
- Rake, sweep, and maintain the appearance and functionality of all walkways and working surfaces
- Remove manure, soiled bedding, and debris promptly and thoroughly
- Monitor stall conditions and report any damage, repair needs, or unusual conditions to the Director of Operations
Facility Presentation & Upkeep:
- Ensure the overall appearance of assigned barn areas is clean, organized, and visitor-ready at all times
- Regularly inspect and tidy shared areas including turnouts, crossties, and tack storage zones
- Assist with pest control support by eliminating trash, old bedding, or other unsanitary buildup
- Participate in deep-cleaning rotations and power washing efforts as needed
Horse Welfare & Safety Awareness:
- Observe horse behavior and report signs of distress, illness, or injury immediately to the Director of Operations
- Follow safety protocols when working around or near horses
- Report any unsafe conditions or hazards related to facility infrastructure, barn equipment, or animal behavior
Inventory & Supply Support:
- Assist in the distribution of shavings, alfalfa, and other barn supplies
- Monitor inventory levels in designated storage areas and notify the Stabling Manager when restocking is needed
- Help ensure tools and supplies are stored properly and in good working order
Teamwork & Communication:
- Work collaboratively with other crew members to ensure daily responsibilities are completed efficiently
- Communicate regularly with the Director of Operations regarding progress, concerns, or boarder needs
- Provide professional and courteous support to boarders, trainers, and visitors when interacting in shared spaces
Qualifications
Required:
- Previous experience in barn or equine facility maintenance preferred
- Ability to work safely around horses and follow barn safety protocols
- Attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean, functional, and professional environment
- Physical ability to perform heavy labor in outdoor conditions year-round
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work on your feet for extended periods
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to take direction and work independently or in a team setting
- Reliable, punctual, and accountable with a positive attitude
Preferred:
- Familiarity with barn tools and equipment, including wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, golf carts, tractors, etc.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
