As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll provide hands-on technical leadership across the design and delivery of Android experiences within the CommBank app. You’ll help shape the mobile platform architecture and roadmap, improve engineering practices and guide critical technical decisions that support secure, reliable and maintainable customer experiences.

Working within a Sydney-based squad, you’ll collaborate with engineers, product owners and technology leaders to:
Shape Android architecture, technical direction and the engineering roadmap.
Design and build high-quality experiences within the CommBank app.
Lead critical design decisions and promote pragmatic, scalable solutions.
Influence engineering practices across the squad and broader value stream.
Own solutions throughout the full engineering lifecycle, from design and development through to production operation.
Mentor engineers and strengthen capability through technical guidance, constructive feedback and knowledge sharing.
Improve quality through automated testing, continuous delivery and production observability.
Collaborate across mobile and backend systems to deliver cohesive customer outcomes.

We’re interested in hearing from people who:
You’re an experienced Android engineer who combines deep technical expertise with the ability to influence architecture, engineering practices and delivery outcomes. You take ownership, communicate technical decisions clearly and enjoy helping engineers grow while maintaining a strong focus on customers and quality.
Experience in several of the following areas will set you up for success:
Deep Android development experience using Kotlin, the Android SDK and Jetpack Compose.
Strong understanding of mobile architecture, including MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture and modular design.
Experience with dependency injection, object-oriented design, SOLID principles and established software design patterns.
Delivery of secure and reliable mobile applications supported by automated testing, continuous delivery and production observability.
Integration with REST or GraphQL APIs and exposure to cloud services such as AWS.
Ability to lead technical decisions, constructively challenge existing approaches and build support for strategic engineering direction.
Experience mentoring engineers and improving technical capability, quality and engineering practices across teams.
Exposure to iOS, Swift, .NET, C#, microservices, AI/ML, Agentic AI or regulated technology environments would be beneficial.
