Position Summary
We are looking for a Staff Database Administrator to own and evolve our SQL Server database infrastructure across production and non-production environments. This senior individual contributor role within the Infrastructure and Operations team will be responsible for database availability, performance, security, disaster recovery, and long-term architectural direction. The role will support platforms including Autotask, Kaseya VSA, and our broader multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure, while serving as the primary escalation point for critical database incidents.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the day-to-day administration, maintenance, monitoring, patching, and health of SQL Server environments across production, staging, and development.
- Drive database performance optimization through query tuning, execution plan analysis, index design, statistics management, and wait statistics analysis.
- Design, implement, and operate high-availability solutions, including SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, and failover procedures.
- Own backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies, including point-in-time recovery, log chain management, recovery validation, and regular DR failover testing.
- Partner with application development teams to manage schema migrations and database changes while maintaining data integrity across multi-tenant environments.
- Define and own the long-term SQL Server technology roadmap, including evaluating cloud database options such as Azure SQL and AWS RDS where appropriate.
- Lead database capacity planning and forecasting across storage, IOPS, compute, and database growth requirements.
- Partner with Security, AWS Cloud, and DevOps teams on database security, access controls, encryption, monitoring, and CI/CD-based database deployments, while serving as a primary escalation point for critical database incidents and participating in the on-call rotation.
Required Qualifications
- 6 or more years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience in production enterprise environments, with demonstrated ownership at a senior or principal level
- Deep expertise in SQL Server performance tuning: execution plans, query rewrites, index design, statistics management, and wait type analysis
- Proven experience designing and operating SQL Server high availability solutions, specifically Always On Availability Groups
- Solid understanding of SQL Server backup and recovery architectures, including point-in-time recovery, log chain management, and DR failover testing
- Experience supporting multi-tenant SaaS platforms at scale, including schema versioning, tenant isolation, and database-per-tenant or shared-schema architectures
- Strong scripting ability in T-SQL and PowerShell for automation of routine DBA tasks, alerting, and maintenance
- Familiarity with cloud-hosted SQL environments including Azure SQL or AWS RDS is a meaningful advantage for this role
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with a distributed team across US and India time zones
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Python scripting experience for database automation or monitoring integrations
- Familiarity with CMMC 2.0, FedRAMP, or other compliance frameworks that intersect with database security controls
- Previous experience in an MSP, SaaS, or IT management software company.
