Why Numeric

Every business runs on accounting, but the systems underneath it were built for a different era. Today’s ERPs don’t store a company’s financial data. They store a diluted copy of it. Every contract, lease, and invoice gets flattened into a journal entry, and the context that made it meaningful is thrown away. That’s why accounting teams spend every month re-checking numbers, stitching together spreadsheets, and waiting on engineering, and why AI struggles to do real accounting work. Accounting doesn’t have a reporting problem. It has a data problem.

Enter Numeric: the data platform finance teams run on. We started with the month-end close, where the data problem hurts most, and hundreds of finance teams now run their close on Numeric. That work led us to rebuild the system of record itself. In September 2026 we launched the Financial Data Platform (FDP), a platform built for the agent era. Instead of a journal entry, the real business object enters the system and the accounting is derived from it. Every number is traceable to its source, reporting works on any dimension, and accountants and AI agents finally have enough context to work together. While others bolted AI features onto the old data model, we built a new one.

We have a growing base of customers who love our product, including Anthropic, Plaid, Brex, Betterment, Wealthfront, and Asana. We’ve raised $89M from top-tier investors including IVP, Menlo Ventures, Founders Fund, and 8VC, along with founders and executives from Ramp, Segment, and other category-defining companies. We’re hybrid but in-office first, with teams in New York, San Francisco, and London, and we just shipped the product that will define our next decade. There’s never been a better time to join.

About the role

As an engineer at Numeric, you will own end-to-end execution of product execution as well as inform product strategy and direction. We look for bright, fast builders with strong fundamentals and a focus on helping our users and solving the right problems.

What you might work on

Our data platform, consisting of:

• Ingestion, metadata management, lineage, and transformation to support the depth and nuance for detailed analysis and insight while maintaining traceability to sources.

• Our reporting experience where end users can flexibly define highly-structured projections of financials to be saved as reports and integrated into their workflows. Reports are traceable and composable, allowing users to drill down to the underlying transaction-level details and more.

• Monitoring, enabling customers to catch bad data at the source and avoid the pain and headaches of cleaning up mistakes weeks or months late.

Our core automation engines:

• Our generalizable accounting engine brings structure to chaos, automating a massive proportion of the work and reducing manual error and turning accountants into engineers.

• With our cash matching product, we save our customers hundreds of painstaking hours each month to resolve event streams of transactions by combining rules, statistical methods, and AI to automate and build the financial graph.

• Our underlying tooling for simulation (and associated DSL), projection, time travel, and more which enables us to rapidly iterate while ensuring correctness and consistency.

Our workflow and AI layers:

• We drive complex cyclical work with dependencies, communication, insights, and workflow automations to help our customers manage world-class operations and support smooth month-end close and year-end audits.

• We take pride in our delightful user experience, and depend on both excellent design and nuanced AI workflows to bring the full power of our platform together for our users.

Requirements

• Computer science or other technical degree

• 4+ years of experience in software engineering
