Why This Role Matters
The RNE (Registration, Numbers and Enablement) group within Vonage's Foundation Engineering department works across four core product domains: Registration, Numbers, Number Intelligence, and Know Your Customer (KYC). Our backend engineers face exciting challenges associated with high-performance, distributed systems and processing large volumes of data in real time. We work on an exciting mix of both greenfield and existing projects, giving engineers the opportunity to explore new technologies.
What You Will Do
- Develop and maintain highly concurrent and distributed backend services;
- Contribute to architectural discussions and help shape technical decisions within the team;
- Design, develop and test new features with a strong focus on quality and reliability;
- Profile and optimise system performance, diagnosing and resolving issues proactively;
- Support the release and documentation of developed features;
- Estimate effort required to develop and implement solutions;
- Contribute to coding standards and development processes;
- Provide out-of-hours support as part of an on-call rota.
What You Will Bring
Essential:
- Solid programming skills in Go (Golang) or strong experience with JVM technologies (Java/Spring Boot) and a genuine desire to learn Go;
- Experience developing and maintaining enterprise-grade systems at scale;
- Experience with highly concurrent, distributed architectures and systems;
- Experience with containerised applications;
- Experience building REST/HTTP based services;
- Experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, Redis);
- Some experience contributing to architectural decisions within a team;
- Strong test suite design skills, including Unit, Integration and Smoke tests;
- Clear and effective communication of problems and solutions across team members.
Nice to Have:
- Familiarity with AWS services (SQS, SNS, DynamoDB);
- Exposure to Kafka, Kubernetes or Terraform;
- Understanding of Continuous Delivery in cloud environments;
- General understanding of the telecommunications industry.
