Overview
The Mastercard Payment Networks team is looking for a Software Development Engineer to drive our customer experience strategy forward by consistently innovating and problem-solving. The ideal candidate is passionate about the customer experience journey, highly motivated, intellectually curious, analytical, and possesses an entrepreneurial mindset.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain high-quality, scalable applications with a strong focus on design, code quality, and maintainability.
• Build backend services using Java (17+), applying core Object-Oriented principles, SOLID practices, and standard design patterns.
• Contribute to development of microservices-based applications using frameworks such as Spring Boot and foundational event-driven concepts.
• Translate well-defined requirements into efficient and reliable technical implementations.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration and successful delivery.
• Develop and deploy solutions in a CI/CD-enabled environment (e.g., PCF or similar cloud platforms).
• Implement appropriate data persistence solutions (RDBMS, NoSQL such as Cassandra) based on application needs.
• Follow coding standards, quality practices, and program guidelines to ensure clean and reliable code.
• Participate in Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and technology evaluations with guidance from senior engineers.
• Identify issues during development and testing phases, and contribute to timely resolution.
• Communicate progress, challenges, and technical details effectively within the team.
• Actively participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to team commitments.
• Collaborate closely with peers and demonstrate strong teamwork and ownership.
• Support and mentor junior developers when required, while also driving continuous self-learning.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and development practices.
All About You
• Strong foundation in Full Stack or Backend development with a passion for building quality software.
• Good understanding of Java, Spring Boot, and modern application development practices.
• Exposure to event-driven architecture and distributed systems concepts is an advantage.
• Experience working on online / real-time systems.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools.
• Working knowledge of database technologies including RDBMS and NoSQL (e.g., Cassandra).
• Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., PCF or similar) and digital-native architectures is desirable.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to learn quickly and adapt.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
• Basic mentoring capability and willingness to support team growth.
