*This position allows for up to 2-3 days per week of teleworking with management approval.

Core Responsibilities:

The Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory (HETL) is looking for a shipping and receiving/customer service clerk to work at the public health lab, which is responsible for handling environmental samples and materials related to the testing of environmental, clinical, and forensic samples. This position is vital in helping the shipping department supervisor ensure all projects and deadlines are met within a proper time frame and all of our customers’ needs are taken care of. This position also helps with the receipt and distribution of all parcel deliveries to the laboratory and keeping an organized stock of all supplies needed for the department and laboratory.


As a key member of the HETL team, your core responsibilities will include:

  • Entering sample details and demographic data into the HETL’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) System
  • Working with chemists, microbiologists, water treatment professionals, and the public
  • Communicating and assisting clients with ordering testing kits and collecting fees
  • Participating in assembly and shipping of sample collection test kits
  • Receiving sample collection kits and reviewing paperwork for accuracy and compliance with sample acceptance policies
  • Providing support for scientific staff
  • Facilitating proper distribution of samples within the laboratory
  • Maintaining shipping supply materials

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Training, education or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates 1) competency in applying a solid knowledge of inventory and property management principles to perform complex work in conducting inventory operations for a warehouse or stockroom and 2) the ability to use independent judgment in handling exceptions to established work assignments, priorities and schedules.


All positions in this classification assume the qualifications of: Inventory and Property Assistant.


Preferred candidates will also have:  

  • Ability to follow written standard operating procedures
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to apply best practices and standards
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
