POSITION SUMMARY

The TAP Advisor/Sexuality Educator position provides high quality sex education to youth, young adults and parents located in Nassau County. They are responsible for the oversight and implementation of the Teen Advocate Project (TAP). This position facilitates evidence-based curricula and outreach to youth and adults in Nassau County. The Advisor/Sexuality Educator develops programming for the participating youth who engage their peers with sexual and reproductive health information and care they need using a variety of approaches, including workshops, outreach, community engagement, events and social media. The Advisor/Sexuality Educator will plan and implement the daily operations of the youth development program, manage the youth focused social media platforms, increase meaningful outreach to youth in the priority areas. The Advisor/Sexuality Educator will inform, educate, and raise awareness for SRH and SRJ health related topics to engage youth in Hempstead priority areas. The Advisor/Sexuality Educator will promote PPGNY services to youth in Hempstead through the Teen Clinic program.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Outreach and Facilitation (50%)

  • Facilitate sexuality education workshops and community outreach to youth. In all activities, ensure adherence to PPGNY’s mission, values, guiding principles and maintain curriculum fidelity.
  • Conduct community outreach that includes, but is not limited to community events, pop-ups, tabling, fairs, school events, etc.
  • Provides culturally and linguistically appropriate sexuality education programs
  • Support with translation of documents for patient services and use linguistic skills to interpret for patients
  • Promote Teen Clinic health services at educational workshops and community events and support with coordination
  • Attends or Facilitates trainings for professionals via the PPGNY Training Institute, as needed.

Program Implementation and Administrative Duties (35%)

  • Recruit, interview and enroll all new TAP Teens as needed
  • Conduct a comprehensive sexuality education/reproductive justice training for all new TAP Teens. Provide ongoing training and development on critical issues as needed.
  • Plana and implement on-going support positive youth development activities to support the TAP teens build leadership, teamwork and set future goals
  • Facilitate regularly scheduled individual check-ins and group meetings with the TAP Teens to ensure that they receive comprehensive information and support. The expected outcome is for the TAP teens work together as a cohesive team in an environment which they feel safe to openly discuss difficulties and challenges they are facing as youth within their communities
  • Facilitate daily schedule and projects for TAP Teens
  • Coordinate the youth-focused social media platforms, which includes helping the TAP create and vet content (pictures, memes, videos, PSA’s) and post content on an ongoing basis that is timely and relevant to NYC young people.
  • Schedule the TAP community engagement opportunities, special events or projects
  • Collaborate with CAPP Coordinator and Director of Education to meet programmatic deliverables, grant reporting requirements, etc.
  • Collaborate with Research and Evaluation team and school representatives to implement appropriate evaluation measures projects.
  • Collects data and evaluations from workshop and training participants; compiles appropriately and submits to Research and Evaluation team.
  • Manages and submits timesheets and other administrative requirements for TAP program

Community Engagement and Partnership Building (10%)

  • Builds and Maintains community relationships by representing PPGNY to community partners with professionalism and connect partners to additional programs as applicable.
  • Establish and maintain a close relationship with schools and other youth related agencies in the community to engage in meaningful community collaborations.
  • Conducts outreach to local schools (middle school, high school, colleges) and youth service providers in catchment areas to promote PPGNY services and offerings.
  • Represent PPGNY on committees, coalitions, conferences, etc. to promote the work in youth education, access and justice.

Special Projects (5%)

  • Ensure the TAP activities are well integrated into the overall mission of the Education and Training Department and other PPGNY services
  • Facilitates and/or attend Training Institute trainings for youth serving professionals, PPGNY staff, educators, etc.
  • Stay abreast to latest in sexual reproductive health, reproductive justice, and youth development
  • Provides support on collaborative intradepartmental and interdepartmental projects, efforts and committees.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Special Projects and Additional Duties:

This position requires flexibility and adaptability. In response to programmatic and grant-related needs, employees may be assigned additional responsibilities or cross-functional duties to ensure program goals, timelines, and deliverables are met.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • An interest in social media engagement

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1+ years of related and/or applicable work experience and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with youth in targeted communities
  • 1+ years of Positive Youth Development experience
  • Must be experienced in conducting/coordinating sexuality-related presentations in schools or other youth serving groups
  • Experience in working with diverse population and knowledge of sexual and reproductive health.
  • Flexible schedule
  • Must have a car to travel around Nassau County

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Service-Learning Experience
  • Social Media Experience
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred not required.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires prolonged sitting and repetitive tasks including use of a computer. Periodic standing, walking, bending. Requires lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds of programming or event materials. Must be able to occasionally walk up and down stairs. Visual acuity sufficient to perform frequent work on a computer screen and review printed reports and other materials. Requires the ability to hear and to communicate orally with others. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, and will require reaching, grasping, pushing and pulling.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

This job operates in a professional office environment. Potential exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions in a health center environment. Requires travel to various indoor and outdoor environments to conduct programming or events. Requires flexible schedule and during peak activity periods work in excess of 7.5 hours per day and/or 37.5 hours per week
