What You Will Do:
Guidehouse is seeking a Senior Technical Editor to support a federal client research communications, publications, and outreach programs. The Senior Technical Editor will oversee the editorial process for complex technical publications and communications products, ensuring technical accuracy, stylistic consistency, accessibility compliance, and publication readiness across a broad portfolio of research, engineering, and transportation-related materials. The role serves as an editorial and publications lead, directing editorial staff, managing document workflows, and supporting the full lifecycle of publications from concept development through final print and digital publication. Responsibilities may include the following:
Lead editorial review, quality assurance, and publication management activities for technical reports, research publications, newsletters, magazines, websites, and other communications products.
Oversee the entire editorial process for high-visibility technical publications and ensure consistency across large-scale communications programs.
Supervise and mentor editors, writers, and publication support staff while providing editorial leadership and guidance.
Perform substantive editing, copyediting, proofreading, rewriting, formatting, and fact-checking of complex technical content.
Verify technical accuracy, references, citations, copyrights, trademarks, permissions, and publication requirements.
Translate complex research findings, technical information, and engineering content into clear, authoritative publications for diverse audiences.
Ensure compliance with the Government Publishing Office (GPO) Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style, Section 508 accessibility standards, and agency-specific editorial guidance.
Manage publication intake, schedules, workflows, reviews, approvals, version control, and dissemination activities.
Coordinate with researchers, engineers, technical subject matter experts, legal reviewers, public affairs staff, and agency stakeholders throughout the publication process.
Direct quality control reviews and ensure all deliverables meet agency standards prior to publication.
Support publishing activities across print, digital, and web-based platforms, from document development through final publication and distribution.
Work independently while managing multiple publications and priorities in a fast-paced federal environment.
What You Will Need:
Ability to OBTAIN and MAINTAIN a Federal or DoD Public Trust; Candidates with an ACTIVE PUBLIC TRUST or SUITABILITY are preferred
Must be US Citizen.
Master's degree in English, Journalism, or a technical field.
10+ years of technical editing, publishing, communications, or editorial experience.
Supervisory and project management experience.
Experience overseeing editorial staff and mentoring junior editors and writers.
Expert knowledge of the Government Publishing Office (GPO) Style Manual.
Knowledge of federal publishing requirements.
Experience managing publication workflows and the full lifecycle of technical documents from development through final publication.
Experience with substantive editing, copyediting, proofreading, rewriting, and fact-checking.
Experience verifying citations, references, technical accuracy, and copyright compliance.
Experience supporting Section 508-compliant publications and digital content.
Strong quality assurance, document management, and version-control skills.
Experience coordinating reviews and approvals among multiple stakeholders.
Must work from client site in Washington, DC and Guidehouse office in Arlington, VA/Tysons Corner, VA.

Experience supporting FHWA, USDOT, or other federal research and communications programs
Transportation, highway, engineering, infrastructure, or scientific communications experience
Experience supporting large-scale research communications and publications programs
Experience with digital publishing, web publishing, and electronic dissemination platforms
Familiarity with transportation research, highway operations, safety, or surface transportation programs
