Working closely with Client Data Integration, Service Delivery, Product Support, Engineering, and Product Management, the Senior System Configuration Engineer provides consultative guidance throughout the implementation lifecycle, identifying configuration risks early and recommending solutions that improve client outcomes while reducing operational support issues.
This role focuses on configuration quality, technical leadership, governance, and continuous improvement to ensure system configurations align with business requirements and long-term operational success.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Configuration Architecture & Solution Design - 35%
- Serve as the technical lead for complex client configuration design and business rule implementation.
- Review proposed system configurations to ensure they align with platform capabilities, business requirements, and industry best practices.
- Identify configuration risks, unintended downstream impacts, and operational considerations before implementation.
- Recommend alternative configuration approaches that improve scalability maintainability, and client outcomes.
- Partner with implementation teams to design solutions for complex business scenarios.
- Provide technical consultation throughout the implementation lifecycle.
Technical Leadership & Configuration Governance - 35%
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Configuration Analysts, assisting with complex configuration scenarios and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Review complex configurations and provide recommendations prior to implementation.
- Establish and maintain configuration standards, best practices, and design principles.
- Develop governance processes that promote consistency and reduce implementation-related defects.
- Serve as the escalation point for advanced configuration questions.
- Develop and maintain training/reference materials and technical documentation, including configuration playbooks and implementation standards for Configuration Analysts.
- Lead knowledge-sharing sessions focused on platform capabilities, business rules, and configuration techniques.
- Support onboarding and development of new Configuration team members.
Configuration Quality & Continuous Improvement - 20%
- Analyze production issues to identify trends related to configuration design.
- Conduct post-implementation reviews to identify opportunities for improving configuration practices.
- Partner with Product Support to reduce recurring configuration-related incidents.
- Develop recommendations to improve implementation quality and reduce technical debt.
- Support development of automated validation checks and configuration quality controls where possible.
- Track and report configuration quality metrics and implementation trends.
Cross-Functional Collaboration - 10%
- Partner with Client Data Integration, Service Delivery Analysts, Engineering, Product Support and Product Management throughout client implementations.
- Participate in implementation planning sessions for complex clients.
- Assist Engineering by translating configuration challenges into enhancement opportunities.
- Provide technical consultation during client escalations involving complex configuration scenarios.
- Support root cause analysis efforts for configuration-related production issues.
Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications & KSA):
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5-7 years of work-related experience.
- Advanced experience designing and implementing business rules, workflows, and system configurations.
- Experience mentoring technical staff or serving as a technical lead preferred.
- Strong analytical and systems-thinking abilities.
- Ability to identify configuration risks before implementation.
- Excellent troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Strong consultative communication skills.
- Ability to influence technical decisions without direct authority.
- Experience reviewing technical designs and providing constructive feedback.
- Strong documentation and knowledge-sharing skills.
- Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
