ASM is seeking an EHS Engineer to help support a safe and sustainable workplace in the semiconductor equipment industry, primarily based at the Second Technology Center (TC2). In this role, you will work closely with the Senior EHS Manager to support EHS activities at the Tama and TC2 sites and help create an environment where employees, contractors, and visitors can work safely and confidently. You will also collaborate with Field EHS supporting domestic field service operations and provide EHS support to other sites in Japan as needed. Candidates with experience in manufacturing, facilities, field service, chemical safety, or occupational health and safety are encouraged to apply, even if they do not have direct semiconductor industry experience. Working with the Global EHS team and local stakeholders, you will contribute to practical, site-based EHS systems beyond compliance, including risk assessments, pre-installation and change reviews, chemical use reviews, tool installation reviews, training, audits, incident response, and continuous improvement.
Education / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in engineering, science, chemistry, environmental health and safety, or a related field.
- Practical experience in EHS or occupational health and safety in manufacturing, semiconductor-related operations, equipment service, facility management, design, or development environments.
- Experience in semiconductor fabs, cleanrooms, or other high-tech manufacturing environments is preferred but not required.
- Experience with chemical safety, hazardous materials, specialty gases, risk assessments, installation reviews, or incident response is preferred; experience with highly hazardous chemicals is a strong plus.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Japanese environmental regulations, or occupational health and safety requirements is preferred.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including operations teams, management functions, and global teams.
- Ability to engage stakeholders across functions and levels and proactively contribute to improving the safety culture.
- Ability to identify issues based on site conditions and data, and propose and drive practical improvement actions.
- Willingness to learn new knowledge, adapt to change, and grow independently.
- Ability to work proactively, prioritize effectively, and remain flexible in a fast-changing business environment.
- EHS-related qualifications such as Health Officer, Safety Officer, Occupational Safety Consultant, ISO auditor, or equivalent certifications are welcome but not required. Candidates who do not currently hold a Health Officer qualification are expected to obtain it after joining, with company support as appropriate.

- Support compliance with applicable Japanese regulations, including the Industrial Safety and Health Act, Fire Service Act, and environmental laws, and contribute to stable business operations and risk reduction.
- If qualified, serve as the Health Officer for TC2 and support health and safety management activities required under Japanese regulations; if not already qualified, work toward obtaining the Health Officer qualification after joining.
- Provide EHS guidance, site checks, and improvement support so that employees, contractors, and visitors can work safely and confidently.
- Monitor changes in regulations, internal standards, and customer requirements, and provide practical recommendations to management and relevant functions based on EHS expertise.
- Work with operations and administrative teams to help resolve health and safety issues rooted in day-to-day site activities.
- Use EHS metrics, audit results, and incident information to drive improvement activities for risk reduction and stronger EHS performance.

- Support tool installation reviews, to verify EHS requirements, layout, utilities, work safety, and emergency response considerations before and after installation.
- Support continuous improvement of EHS performance through audits and site walkthroughs.
- Collaborate with overseas sites and Global EHS members to deploy best practices across sites in Japan.
- Communicate EHS issues, risks, and improvement proposals clearly, gaining stakeholder understanding and cooperation to move improvements forward.
