Position Description
We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer – UI to join our Identity Platform engineering team. You will own the design and delivery of complex, enterprise-grade frontend experiences that power Okta's identity lifecycle
management capabilities — including admin configuration flows, wizard UIs, real-time progress tracking, and bulk operation workflows.
You will partner closely with Product Management, UX, and backend engineers to translate complex enterprise identity requirements into intuitive, accessible, and performant web applications. This is a hybrid position.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Frontend Ownership: Independently own and deliver complex UI features end-to-end — from design collaboration through production deployment.
- Architecture & Standards: Lead frontend architectural decisions, enforce code quality, accessibility, performance, and testability standards across the codebase.
- API Integration: Build rich UIs backed by RESTful and GraphQL APIs; collaborate with backend engineers to define optimal API contracts for frontend consumption.
- Real-Time & Async UX: Build responsive experiences for long-running operations including real-time progress indicators, polling, and WebSocket-driven updates.
- Migration & Modernization: Drive migration of legacy UI surfaces to modern component architectures and design systems.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Managers and UX Designers to shape feature strategy and translate complex requirements into seamless user experiences.
- Code Reviews & Mentorship: Conduct thorough code reviews and mentor junior and intermediate engineers on frontend best practices and engineering velocity.
- Operational Excellence: Troubleshoot production UI issues, contribute to RCAs, and improve observability and monitoring for client-side applications.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience: 5+ years building production-grade, enterprise web applications.
- Frontend Expertise: Deep hands-on experience with React, TypeScript, Redux (or equivalent state management), and modern JavaScript.
- API Fluency: Strong experience consuming RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs and designing optimal frontend-backend contracts.
- UI Quality: Solid understanding of accessibility (WCAG), cross-browser compatibility, and frontend performance optimization.
- Testing: Experience with UI testing frameworks such as Cypress, Playwright, or Jest.
- Collaboration: Proven ability to partner with UX, Product, and backend engineers to deliver cohesive, end-to-end features.
Nice to Haves
- Experience with micro-frontends, server-side rendering, or design system integration (e.g., Okta Odyssey or similar).
- Familiarity with feature flag frameworks and gradual rollout strategies for large-scale UI migrations.
- Exposure to Identity & Access Management concepts (SCIM, SAML, OAuth/OIDC) or enterprise admin tooling.
- Experience with WebSockets or real-time UI patterns for bulk/async operations.
- Familiarity with cloud deployment pipelines and CI/CD tooling for frontend applications.
Education and Training
B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
