Sobre esta vaga de Senior Software Engineer - Pricing na tem
📈 Who We Are:
We are rebuilding the energy transaction, making it transparent and fair.
Our goal is to put power back where it belongs, in the hands of customers and to take on one of the most critical problems of our century, access to low cost electricity.
tem exists to fix a broken global energy market that’s long favoured legacy operators, intermediaries, and opaque pricing. Today’s electricity system was not designed for rapid decarbonisation, AI-driven efficiency or fair access for the actual users - businesses and generators.
We’ve built the first AI native transaction infrastructure to reinvent how electricity is bought, sold and priced. Our technology is designed to cut out the inefficient fees, automate complex market flows, and bring transparency and fairness to energy transactions at scale.
In late 2025, after extraordinary growth, we closed a $75 million Series B - led by Lightspeed Venture Partners with participation from Albion, Atomico, Allianz, Hitachi Ventures, Hitachi Ventures, Schroders Capital and others - positioning us for global expansion, deeper product innovation and category leadership.
We’re scaling internationally and building toward a future where AI-driven infrastructure is foundational to electricity markets worldwide.
Since launch, our modern utility product, known as RED, has already facilitated thousands of business customers and billions in energy transaction value, proving that modern software and AI can transform an industry built on legacy systems.
At tem, we’re not just building another energy company, we’re rearchitecting market infrastructure so that transparency, efficiency and sustainability become the default, not the exception.
🎯 The Role
We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Pricing.
You'll join the Pricing squad, the team behind the pricing engine at the heart of RED, tem's modern utility product. The systems you build price real energy contracts for businesses buying electricity and renewable generators selling it, so correctness shows up as money and speed shows up as trust.
This is a backend, data-heavy engineering role with a quant-y flavour. You'll help build our new Pricing API, make prices fast, accurate and understandable, and make sure that when we can't price something, we can always explain why.
In your first 12 months, you might:
Design and ship core slices of our new Pricing API, taking them from first design through to production.
Consolidate pricing logic into one service with a clean boundary, keeping pricing behaviour stable throughout the move.
Build the detection and alerting that catches bad or slow prices before they ever reach a customer.
Give our commercial team self-serve answers to "why can't we price this?".
Make pricing measurably faster for every customer quote.
🛠️ Responsibilities
Build with impact: design and ship components of the Pricing API that price real energy contracts, owning work from design through to production.
Make it fast: help bring the time to a first customer price down dramatically, without sacrificing accuracy.
Own reliability: build the error handling, observability and alerting that make pricing fail loudly and explainably, never silently.
Sharpen the boundaries: extract and consolidate pricing logic so the pricing engine owns its own behaviour end-to-end.
Close the loop: take your turn handling live pricing questions and incidents, and turn what you learn into structural fixes.
✅ Requirements
Must-Haves
Production backend Python: you have shipped and run an API in production and been on the hook when it broke.
Comfortable with FastAPI and SQL, and with data- and analytics-heavy systems where the correctness of numbers matters.
Product engineering nous: you ask what the price is for and who reads it, not just how to compute it.
You build with agents: Claude or similar is part of your daily workflow for writing, testing and reviewing code.
You can own a project end to end - scoping, delivery, quality - with a tech lead as a sounding board rather than a supervisor.
Desirable
Domain knowledge from fintech, energy pricing or neo-utilities, or ad-tech.
Experience working inside or alongside machine learning teams.
AWS and serverless patterns (Lambda, event-driven services, Postgres on RDS).
Polars, or a taste for making numerical code fast.
🎁 Benefits & Perks
Competitive salary - our current band for this role is [salary band] or equivalent in local currency.
Stock options so everyone has ownership in our mission.
25 days holiday plus public holidays. Swap public holidays for the ones that matter most to you, and enjoy your birthday off.
Remote first and flexible working, with clear core hours and no internal meetings on Friday afternoons.
Up to GBP1,200 or EUR1,400 per year for your remote setup.
Up to GBP150 or EUR170 per month for wellbeing.
