The Role & What You Will Be Doing
The Senior Marketing Manager will provide strategic commercial leadership for new and complex prescription medicines from pre-launch through launch and in-market growth. The role will translate science, customer and patient insight, NHS dynamics, market access considerations, competitive intelligence and business objectives into a clear UK strategy and executable launch plan. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker who is comfortable operating with ambiguity, challenging assumptions and leading cross-functional teams to make clear choices and deliver successful, compliant launches.
Every day, we rise to the challenge to make a difference and here’s how the Senior Marketing Manager role will make an impact:
· Own the UK commercial strategy and long-term brand plan for assigned prescription assets, translating and constructively challenging Global/Regional direction to ensure UK market, NHS and customer requirements are reflected in asset strategy and launch planning, with clear choices on target patients, positioning, differentiation, strategic priorities and investment.
· Lead end-to-end pre-launch and launch planning, establishing the integrated launch roadmap, critical milestones, decision points, dependencies, readiness criteria, critical success factors, risks and contingency plans.
· Lead the cross-functional team across Marketing, Medical, Market Access, Regulatory, Sales, Finance, Supply, Insights, Digital and Legal/Compliance, creating clarity, pace, accountability and effective escalation.
· Develop a deep understanding of the disease area, patient journey, treatment pathway, prescribing environment, HCP needs and NHS priorities; translate customer, patient, KOL and market insight into strategic decisions and actions.
· Partner with Medical and Market Access to anticipate evidence, NICE/NHS access, funding, formulary, pathway and implementation requirements and ensure the commercial strategy addresses barriers to adoption and appropriate use.
· Own the UK competitive strategy, monitoring clinical developments, competitor launches, evidence, pricing/access, customer behaviour and market events; develop scenarios and response plans as the environment evolves.
· Own commercial assumptions, forecasts and business cases for assigned assets, including market size, uptake, penetration, launch timing and investment requirements; challenge assumptions and refresh scenarios as evidence changes.
· Lead annual and long-range planning and manage A&P investment, prioritising resources against the highest-value opportunities and agreed sales, profit, patient and uptake objectives.
· Develop an integrated HCP/customer strategy and compliant omnichannel plan, ensuring customer journeys, content, channels, field activity, education and digital engagement support the strategic objectives of the brand.
· Build appropriate relationships with KOLs, HCPs, patient organisations, NHS stakeholders and external partners to strengthen insight, market understanding and launch delivery, working within applicable governance requirements.
· Identify market-shaping and lifecycle opportunities, including pathway development, patient identification, service solutions, new indications/formulations and other opportunities that can strengthen long-term asset value.
· Ensure all activities comply with UK medicines legislation, the ABPI Code and relevant company policies and approval processes, partnering closely with Medical, Regulatory, Legal and Compliance.
· Define launch KPIs and leading indicators and use data, analytics, digital technology and approved AI tools to strengthen decision-making, customer engagement and marketing effectiveness; identify performance gaps early and drive optimisation and corrective action.
Accountability & Key Relationships
· Own: UK prescription brand strategy / planning, positioning, customer strategy, launch planning and governance, commercial assumptions and forecasts, marketing investment within delegated authority and agency direction.
· Full P&L accountability
· Influence: pricing and access strategy, evidence priorities, sales deployment, supply planning, wider resource allocation and broader asset business cases.
· Key relationships: Head of Marketing/Business Unit Head & Senior Leadership Team; Medical Affairs, Market Access, Regulatory, Sales, Finance, Supply, Insights, Digital and Compliance; Global/Regional teams; KOLs, HCPs, patient organisations and relevant NHS stakeholders.
About Your Skills & Experience
For this role, we’re looking for a candidate who has an effective combination of the following qualifications, skills and experiences:
· Significant pharmaceutical marketing/commercial experience within prescription medicines, with a strong track record of strategic brand leadership; pre-launch or launch experience with a complex or innovative asset strongly preferred.
· Exceptional strategic thinking and commercial judgement, with the ability to turn complex science, incomplete information and competing perspectives into clear choices, recommendations and action.
· Strong understanding of the UK prescription medicines environment, NHS structures and treatment pathways, market access/reimbursement and the requirements of launching and growing a POM brand.
· Proven ability to lead through influence, align cross-functional teams and engage senior stakeholders effectively within a complex matrix organisation.
· Strong capability in customer insight, segmentation, positioning, competitive intelligence, forecasting, business cases, performance analytics and omnichannel marketing.
· Strong external stakeholder engagement capability within a highly regulated prescription medicines environment.
· Excellent communication, influencing and presentation skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively, make clear recommendations and maintain momentum through change.
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline; ABPI qualification or commitment to achieve it within an agreed timeframe.
