About the role

Sitting within AGL’s Energy Markets & Treasury Risk (EMTR) team, the Senior Market Risk Analyst is accountable for providing senior independent oversight and challenge for a defined commodity or treasury portfolio, while contributing to the ongoing effectiveness of AGL's market and treasury risk management framework. The role provides exposure to electricity, gas, environmental products, foreign exchange, interest rate, liquidity or funding risks, and involves regular engagement with senior stakeholders and governance forums.

What you’ll be doing:
 

• Provide senior independent oversight of risk exposures for a defined commodity or treasury portfolio, ensuring activities remain within approved policies, limits and risk appetite.
• Provide effective challenge to trading, treasury and commercial activities, ensuring material risks are identified, understood and appropriately managed.
• Lead investigations into emerging risks, policy breaches, control failures and material risk events, supporting appropriate escalation and remediation activities.
• Assess the effectiveness of existing risk controls and recommend enhancements where opportunities for improved risk management are identified.
• Support the development, implementation and ongoing enhancement of market and treasury risk frameworks, methodologies and governance arrangements.
• Review and challenge risk metrics, valuation methodologies, stress testing approaches and scenario analysis frameworks.
• Lead periodic reviews of risk policies, standards, procedures and supporting governance documentation.
• Provide subject matter expertise on market and treasury risk matters across the business.
• Lead preparation of risk insights and recommendations for governance forums including the Risk Management & Treasury Risk Committees and other senior stakeholder groups.
• Escalate material risk issues, limit breaches and emerging risks in accordance with governance requirements.
• Oversee key controls supporting risk measurement, valuation governance and risk monitoring processes.
• Support internal audit, external audit and regulatory reviews relating to market and treasury risk frameworks.
• Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across Wholesale Markets, Treasury, Finance, Strategy and Technology while maintaining appropriate independence and challenge.
• Influence business decisions by providing clear, balanced and commercially informed risk advice.
• Coach and support analysts within the EMTR team and contribute to capability development across the function.
• Contribute to strategic initiatives, regulatory change programs and continuous improvement activities impacting market and treasury risk management.

What you’ll bring:
 

• Significant experience in market risk, treasury or liquidity risk, commodities, financial markets, energy markets, banking or a related risk management discipline.
• Strong understanding of trading and treasury risk frameworks, governance arrangements and risk control environments.
• Demonstrated ability to provide independent risk challenge and influence senior stakeholders on complex risk matters.
• Experience assessing commodity, foreign exchange, interest rate, liquidity and funding risks.
• Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex information and exercise sound professional judgement.
• Experience supporting or presenting to senior management, governance committees or risk forums.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical issues into clear business implications and recommendations.
• Experience with data and analytical tools including Excel, Power BI, SQL, Python or similar technologies would be advantageous.
• Tertiary qualifications in finance, economics, actuarial studies, mathematics, engineering, accounting, commerce or a related discipline.
