Job Description Summary

The Services Component Operation (SCO) Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for equipment upkeep, programming, process improvement, NPIs, and other key manufacturing related processes for the GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy Services business. This role will own and support multiple technical processes and equipment in the production of complex commercial nuclear plant components in a precision metal machine shop. This role is a fully onsite position based in Wilmington NC.

Essential Responsibilities

Responsible for manufacturing processes and support operations. Review, design, generate, update, and monitor manufacturing equipment, devices, systems, and processes. Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Embrace Global Nuclear Fuel’s nuclear safety culture, where work is performed with an overriding priority on integrity, safety, security, and quality.
• Develop programs, cutting paths, tool selection, quality controls program, qualification programs for CNC and manual metal machining (turning or milling). 
• Establish process controls via data analysis to reduce process excursions. Perform engineering trials to evaluate process improvement and to improve fixtures/jigs/tooling.
• Provide daily operator support in the form of CNC programming and troubleshooting support to the shop floor.
• Assist supervision in training and assessing hourly operators in sound techniques and proper operation of equipment to meet safety, quality, and output targets.
• Create clear technical documentation and routing, including work instructions and standard work for production team members. Maintain, review, update, and create area manufacturing documents for operation and maintenance activities.
• Specify proper equipment or machining center for acquisition, installation and startup of new or additional component work.  Technical leader for first piece qualifications and serial production to meet customer commitments.
• Develop heat treat processes for annealing and conditioning metal fabricated assemblies.
• Work cross-functionally with design and quality engineering to negotiate efficient dimensioning and inspection processes. 
• Ensure compliance with all safety and quality regulations and metrics through use of compliance calendars, databases, and tracking systems
• High-level understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles to facilitate design and implementation of continuous improvement of processes with the team. ​
• Coordinate and lead end-to-end capital investment projects and new product introductions to scale manufacturing capabilities and improve operational efficiency
• Other relevant job duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Technical Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college
• Minimum 8 years of experience of CNC programming experience in preparing, testing, and maintaining numerically controlled or similar equipment or programs.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience with 3D solid Modeling software such as Inventor or SolidWorks.
• Minimum 7 years of professional experience in a quality, technical, manufacturing or maintenance role
• Minimum 5 years of industry or military experience with at least two of the following:
  • CNC machining milling and turning
  • Manual machining
  • Process development and fixture design implementation
  • Fabrication set-up

Eligibility Requirements

• Ability to use computers. Frequent use of computer equipment.
• Must be able to relocate to Wilmington, NC.  Remote work is NOT available with regard to this role.
• Ability and willingness to maintain Emergency Response Organization (ERO) qualifications
• Ability to walk up and down stairs multiple times during the day.  Ability to move around and under manufacturing equipment. 
• Must maintain after hours cell phone availability

Desired Characteristics

• Strong mechanical aptitude (i.e. intuitive understanding of mechanical processes)
• Manufacturing engineering experience with product development for machining and metallurgy, heat treating processes
• Stainless steel processing experience
• Experience with equipment installation and troubleshooting, including management of capital and expense projects.
• Manufacturing planning development, including technical methods instructions development
• Experience identifying Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to efficiently monitor for process health
• Practical experience with lean manufacturing principles and tools, identifying opportunities for and designing changes to processes. Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing certification.
• Quality processes experience – GD&T, 6 Sigma, CMM, Qualification achievement. Understanding of quality measurement metrology and product design engineering.
• Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability to independently manage competing priorities and effectively interact with all levels of management to resolve issues that cross organizational boundaries

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $104,600.00 and $174,400.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

 

 

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
