Want to join the leader in AI-powered data security?
Cohesity is seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Software Engineering to lead the team building Gaia, Cohesity’s AI RAG platform — helping customers unlock insights from vast amounts of structured and unstructured data through natural language questions.
In this role, you will lead a team of world-class engineers responsible for large-scale, production-grade AI and RAG systems spanning model serving, retrieval-augmented generation, GPU infrastructure, and distributed backend services. You will be working in close partnership with Product Management, Architects, Data Scientists, and engineering leaders across global locations and drive both execution and innovation — owning some of our most strategic technical projects, delivering systems that transform how enterprise customers derive insight from their data.
Success in this role calls for an energetic, creative and driven leader who combines strong technical judgment with the communication and organizational skills to work effectively across a global organization.
How You'll Spend Your Time Here
- Build, lead, and grow high-performing engineering teams.
- Collaborate with Product Management and Architects to define roadmaps and translate strategy into execution.
- Lead development of AI-powered search, indexing, data retrieval, RAG workflows, and enterprise data intelligence.
- Participate directly in architecture and design review for the team’s critical components, setting the technical bar through judgment rather than process alone.
- Establish engineering best practices including code quality, testing, CI/CD, and operational excellence.
- Drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, and similar) to measurably accelerate the development lifecycle, while maintaining the engineering rigor and review standards that enterprise software demands.
- Partner with cross-functional teams across engineering, security, support, and customer success.
- Mentor senior engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning.
- Manage planning, staffing, resource allocation, and delivery commitments.
What Success Looks Like
- Gaia revenue and adoption targets are met, with engineering delivery as a contributing driver and unblocking customer deployments.
- Retrieval and answer quality improve against a defensible, repeatable evaluation baseline that the team owns.
- AI-assisted development tooling is in routine use across the team, with a measurable effect on delivery velocity.
- The team is fully staffed and stable, with a clear development path for each engineer and a strengthened senior bench.
We'd Love to Talk to You if You Have Many of the Following
- BS/MS in Computer Science or a relevant technical field
- 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience in planning, architecting, and delivering high-quality products.
- 5+ years of building, managing or leading high-performance development teams.

- Domain expertise in relevant areas such as Distributed systems, Platform, Storage, Data Management products, Data pipelines/ETL, Kubernetes.
- Experience driving engineering execution across geographically distributed teams.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organizational leadership skills.
- Proven track record of hiring, developing and retaining strong engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building AI/ML, GenAI, RAG, semantic search, or enterprise knowledge platforms.
- Familiarity with LLMs, vector databases, embeddings, AI orchestration frameworks, and intelligent retrieval systems.
- Experience with large-scale data platforms or data protection, storage, security, search technologies.
- Background shipping on-premises or hybrid products with formal support and release lifecycle commitments.
