Kamehameha Schools is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join our Controller Division Team in investment accounting and reporting. As part of the Kamehameha Schools Finance Group, this position collaborates with teams responsible for financial assets, real estate, and treasury. The ideal candidate is passionate about these areas and brings initiative, strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
This is a Hybrid position which provides work from home flexibility on an approval basis.
Job Summary
Responsible for accounting and analysis to meet the reporting requirements of the organization, focusing on investment accounting and GAAP accounting. Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Endowment accounting and reporting systems necessary to ensure accurate and consistent financial information. Works with financial assets, commercial real estate, and treasury teams.
Essential Responsibilities
- Responsible for a wide variety of accounting and financial analysis, including preparing ledger entries, reconciliations, schedules, financial statements, analyses and allocations necessary for monthly closing, annual audits, tax preparation, compliance reporting, and ad hoc reporting as necessary.
- Prepares journal entries, verifies account balances, and ensures completeness and integrity of ledger data via data validation and reasonableness analysis. Prepares timely and accurate workpapers and supporting schedules to satisfy accounting and reporting requirements. Works in multiple software platforms. A direct liaison with the external auditors during their examination period.
- Responsible for the maintenance and analysis of the Endowment Chart of Accounts to ensure accurate and consistent recording and reporting of the financial information. Serves as the system administrator for all changes to the ledger and sets up new investment accounts. Maintains necessary reporting codes in various data files. Required knowledge of multiple financial systems processes to ensure the integrity of the financial data.
- Responsible for the integrity of the Endowment accounting and reporting to provide accurate financial reports. Works with third party custodian team to ensure accurate and timely accounting. Reviews financial information to ensure compliance with Endowment accounting policies and procedures. Works with financial assets operations and treasury teams in various investment activities. Reviews investment returns and benchmarks for reasonableness. Prepares monthly and quarterly reports.
- Support special reporting requirements, ad hoc reports, and various analytical information.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the qualifications listed.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in a medium to large organization accounting department or investment office.
- Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Highly proficient in MS Office applications including Excel, Word, Access, and Powerpoint. Advanced knowledge of data mining & reporting tools in an automated financial accounting system.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, reconcile and synthesize complex information from various databases and prepare final reports and analyses for senior management. Ability to analyze and comprehend financial statements, system reports, and spreadsheets.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal and external staff at all levels and various locations throughout Hawaii and the United States.
- Excellent organizational skills to prioritize and handle complex, multiple, simultaneous projects related to organization changes. Ability to multi-task in a fast changing environment while meeting critical deadlines.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, ability to work with high degree of independence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant designation or Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement designation.
- Good understanding of KS organizational structure, processes and operations.
- Prior experience in financial assets, investment funds, banking, or real estate.
- Experience with or knowledge of Oracle Fusion Cloud, MRI, BNY Nexen, and Advanced Excel.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
- Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions (including Environmental Conditions)
- This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
- Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
- Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
