What You Will Contribute:
Serves as Badger Meter's technical authority for reliability engineering, converting product life and performance expectations into defensible acceptance criteria, acceleration models, executable test plans and field-validated evidence. This senior individual contributor owns design validation planning for new platforms and influences release decisions through rigorous analysis and clear technical judgment.
Job Duties:
- Set and maintain standards for reliability assumptions, statistics, methods and documentation supporting product claims.
- Translate service-life, duty-cycle and warranty expectations into measurable reliability requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Develop executable test plans defining stress profiles, samples, instrumentation, failure criteria, stop criteria and analysis methods.
- Design and lead HALT, HASS, HASA, accelerated life and step-stress testing appropriate to product risks and use environments.
- Determine statistically defensible sample sizes, test durations, confidence levels and reliability demonstration approaches.
- Develop and defend acceleration factors using physics-of-failure models and validate assumptions when risk warrants.
- Evaluate corner cases, tolerance extremes and combined environmental or duty-cycle conditions that may set design limits.
- Own the Design Validation Plan for new platforms, including requirements traceability, DFMEA alignment, execution status and release recommendations.
- Analyze reliability data using Weibull and other life-distribution methods, censored data, confidence bounds, DOE, regression and hypothesis testing.
- Integrate warranty, field return, RMA and installed-base data to compare predicted and realized reliability and improve future validation.
- Lead failure analysis through root cause, corrective action and effectiveness verification within the FRACAS process.
- Partner with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Product Management, suppliers and laboratories to embed reliability throughout development and production.
- Build repeatable analysis tools, structured data, dashboards and reporting standards that improve reproducibility and decision quality.
- Mentor engineers and technicians, represent reliability in reviews and audits, and communicate evidence, uncertainty and risk to technical and business audiences.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, Reliability, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of hardware product-development engineering experience, including reliability engineering, accelerated testing and life data analysis.
- ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer; Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated expertise in HALT, HASS, ALT, step-stress testing, reliability demonstration and design validation planning.
- Strong applied statistics, acceleration modeling, physics of failure and technical influence without direct authority.
- Experience with metering, sensors, battery-powered electronics or long-service-life hardware is preferred.
- Knowledge of applicable industry standards; and experience with ReliaSoft, Minitab, JMP or relevant scripting tools is preferred.
Competencies:
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with others across the organization to achieve shared objectives.
- Communication: Convey information and ideas clearly and concisely to individuals or groups in an engaging manner that helps them understand and retain the message; listen actively to others.
- Initiating Action: Take prompt action to accomplish work goals; take action to achieve results beyond what is required; be proactive.
- Work Standards: Setting high standards of performance for self and others; assuming responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments or tasks; self-imposing standards of excellence rather than having standards imposed.
