The Leader for Clinical Innovation and Artificial Intelligence will drive enterprise-level transformation at the intersection of advanced technology and patient-centered care. Partnering closely with the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) organization, this role will spearhead the design and implementation of intelligent systems that enable proactive engagement, early intervention, and holistic management of member health, delivering better outcomes, enhanced experiences, and measurable clinical value.

As healthcare accelerates toward value-based and personalized models, this leader will architect and scale AI-driven care platforms that guide members from onboarding through every stage of their health journey. The role ensures that innovation is not only visionary but also operationally sustainable, data-driven, and deeply embedded across the enterprise to advance Cigna’s mission of smarter, more connected care.

Responsibilities

• Architect and lead the creation of an AI-first technology platform that drives proactive, predictive, and continuous health management across the member journey -transforming engagement, outcomes, and efficiency at scale.

• Serve as the technology lead for Clinical Innovation, aligning engineering, AI, and data capabilities with the Chief Medical Officer’s vision and the organization’s long-term health strategy.

• Shape the technical strategy and architecture for an intelligent, extensible platform that integrates AI, automation, and clinical insights into every member interaction, from onboarding through long-term care and recovery.

• Continuously assess emerging technologies, market trends, and partner ecosystems to identify opportunities for differentiation, scalability, and clinical innovation. Drive the adoption of next-generation AI models, and interoperable frameworks that strengthen Cigna’s competitive edge.

• Integrate with multi-source data - including EMR, HIE, claims, behavioral, , in collaboration with analytics, engineering, and clinical teams.

• Design and deploy AI-driven solutions that deliver hyper-personalized health coaching, behavioral nudges, and digital interventions that enable early risk mitigation, lifestyle improvement, and clinical adherence.

• Operationalize AI-powered guided assistance and care coordination, ensuring timely access to appropriate care pathways, seamless transitions, and reduced fragmentation across the care continuum.

• Integrate the AI platform across the enterprise ecosystem - connecting with Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Health Information Exchanges (HIE), Campaign Management, Case Management, Administrative, and Contact Center systems, to deliver a seamless, unified experience for patients, providers, and care teams.

• Ensure technical rigor and operational excellence through adherence to AI governance, model transparency, clinical safety, security, and responsible-AI standards.

• Drive scalability, performance, and reliability across all AI-enabled workflows and services, ensuring production-grade resilience and continuous improvement of platform capabilities.

• Establish a closed-loop intelligence framework that continuously monitors performance, measures intervention effectiveness, and refines models to optimize outcomes and member experiences.

• Lead and mentor teams, fostering a culture of continuous innovation, inspiring teams to explore emerging technologies (generative AI, digital twins, multimodal data intelligence) and translate them into tangible business and clinical value.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, data science, and clinical teams to operationalize innovation at scale and deliver measurable impact across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive experience in technology leadership roles, with at least 3+ years leading AI, driven product and platform development in healthcare  

• Proven track record of designing, deploying, and scaling AI-enabled platforms or products, including data integration, development, and operationalization in complex enterprise environments.

• Deep understanding of AI/ML methodologies, including Generative AI, Retrieval Augmented Generation, Agentic implementations and supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, natural language processing (NLP)

• Strong knowledge of Responsible AI, Safety and Governance

• Ability to translate complex AI concepts into actionable clinical, business, and operational outcomes, driving measurable value in quality, cost, and patient experience.

• Experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrixed, enterprise environment.

• Proven ability to scan the market for emerging technologies, assess innovation potential, and establish partnerships with startups, academic labs, and AI research communities.

• String strategic communication, stakeholder influence with the ability to bridge technical depth and clinical insight.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 196,800 - 328,000 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
